Did you know, most the accidents caused by vehicles were because of texting? The world would be a safer place if there was a law against walking in the street and using phone. There have been many injuries and fatalities in recent years because of people using their phones and walking. A law is needed because people will not change their behavior unless there is a law. Recent research shows that something must change about this epidemic. A law can prevent many unnecessary injuries and deaths. According to the article,“Pedestrian Safety,” the number of pedestrians killed in traffic jumped by 11% which means that 6 thousand people die because of collisions with vehicles. They also state that if a person is hit by a 40 MPH running car, they have a 80% chance of dying. According to the article “Would You Ban Texting and Walking?”people have 4 times more likely to do something dangerous if they are on their phones. According to the same article, between 2000 and 2011, distracted walking led to around 11,000 injuries in the U.S. In conclusion, this law could save many lives.
