Do you have your rebellious moments? Have you gone off the edge? In the city of Sangui lives the Goondas and among them is our protagonist Tina. In fact, the Goondas are some of the biggest criminals in East Africa. Tina the theft has changed herself in order to meet their expectations by becoming rebellious. As she does, she creates these rules to follow by - they help her finish her mission’s. These rules are followed by Tina no matter how brutal they are. The question I ask from these facts is “Why are these rule’s needed other than to guide through her bad ways?” They were created for one reason and one reason only. The choice’s made this sixteen year are what build up her role as the protagonist. An example is the very first rule itself, “You can’t exist,” pg 1. The first chapter describes this rule and we the readers can learn from Tina is that she feels she needs to live in the shadow’s to exceed her goals. This rule started a trend of being alone like the third rule “Thieve’s don’t have friend’s,” pg 12 and the second rule, “Trust no one,” pg 7. These rule’s explain how Tina has no one else to care for expect her younger sister Kiki, which makes sense because her mother told Tina to keep an eye on Kiki. Those rule’s tie with her mother’s death. Therefore, her mother’s death is a big part of her which results in her rules to revolve around that topic. To show here mother’s importance on her, rule 15 states on pg 288, “..: A rule from my mother : run.” The rule even includes her mother. After all, a big part of Tina’s character is shown by the rules because of the evidence I listed. She created these rules in order to finish what was left undone. It’s because her friends were there to help her in her time of need. Boy Boy and Michael where her friend all along because they helped her. This changed her whole character and her set of rules change. To prove this she even thinks on pg 336 after she realizes she has friends, “What I realize is not really a rule - it’s just true: They exist to me.
