In business, there are many ways to becoming successful, but it all starts with the basics. No matter what type of business it is, one of the main sets of skills one needs to acquire is adequate writing. Each business position may have different things they are trying to accomplish when it comes to writing. Some areas use numbers and graphs, while others use clever and persuasive writing techniques to advertise. With that being said, when authors try and write about a certain discipline, they use different kinds of artifacts. Some of these artifacts include newspaper articles, magazine articles, scholarly journals, and even books. Each artifact is written in a way to appeal to their readers and is not all the same. Authors use different types of appeals depending on what point they are trying to get across. Depending on the audience, appeal, and circumstance, authors have to use different types of artifacts when writing about a certain discipline.

This is an appeal called logos, which are things that help support the claim being made. In the book Wall Street values: Business ethics and the global financial crisis, Michael Santoro and Ronald Strauss use multiple graphs to describe its relationship to multiple business ventures (2013). The author wants to make sure that the reader understands what they are reading. Reading a bunch of numbers really does no justice, until it is visually seen through a graph. Graphs help the reader analyze and really understand what the author wrote and tried to explain.
