Although the people during that time period thought that the war was going to end quickly, simply because it was between Austria and Serbia, the war surprisingly included many other strong countries because of nationalism especially regarding the Balkan colonies wanting to be self-governed. But meanwhile, after Austria-Hungary proclaimed war with Serbia, countries from the Triple Entente later joined into war in a matter of time. As shown in Document A: the European Alliances and nations are shown on a map. The nations then started to pick sides. Austria-Hungary and Germany formed the Central Powers

1. While most believe that the assassination of the Arch-Duke Francis Ferdinand was the sole event that caused the out break of World War I, there were many other underlying events that created the trouble between the major European powers. (section 25-1, Spielvogel). One of the major underlying causes was nationalism. While most thought that every nationality having their own nation-state would help people get along it did nothing but cause even more competition.
As mentioned in Napoleons’ Button (Couteur and Burreson, 2003), ever since the discovery of penicillin, wound infection declines, saving plenty of lives, especially during the World War 2. The rapid advancement of drugs has indeed come a long way and even revolutionized the world. Drugs such as paracetemol helps to subside one’s fever and provide pain relief. On the other hand, drugs that are widely used illegally such as cocaine would be detrimental to one’s personal health when consumed. In any case, the mere existence of drugs is good in nature.
On August 4th 1914 Britain declared war on Germany for violating Belgian neutrality. Australia as allies soon followed and sent troops who departed to Gallipoli in October 1914 along with troops from France, New Zealand and Britain. As the war continued the troops travelled to The Western front where 5,533 soldiers were seriously injured in only 24 hours, by the end of the year the list of casualties grew 40,000. In 1917, 76,836 soldiers were added to the list of casualties in battles in Bullecourt, Messines, and the four-month operation around Ypres, recognised as the battle of Passchendaele. For Australia, World War 1 remains the most damaging conflict in terms of deaths and casualties.
What can be the outcome of fear, nationalism, and ambition in the world? Andrea Coca Global 10 Mr. Mckenna May 22, 2015 World War I also known as the Great War was a serious and complicated event in history. The causes of the Great War (WWI) were the alliance systems, colonial conflicts, the crisis in the Balkans, and the ability for mass mobilization. Before the Great War started many countries were already developed and others were starting to develop, we had countries with strong economic powers and others that were emerging.
It was not uncommon for women at this time to work in factories with many working in ammunition factories. The women who worked in the ammunition factories played an important role in the war effort by doing some of the most important work (Kim). These women worked extremely hard and it was argued that they put their lives in danger almost as much as the men enlisted in the war. They worked long shifts, typically 10-12 hours a day, working with highly-explosive materials (Munitions Factories). Most, if not all, factory jobs required women to operate machinery which was heavy and dangerous, causing many injuries.
War broke out in 1914 due to forces that had been building up in Europe for years. While the Allies blamed Germany for the war too harshly, its actions certainly did directly contribute to World War I, as did those of Austria Hungary. However, each country involved fostered militarism in their country, and became in entrenched in the web of alliances and race for imperial power, all causes of the environment that led to the Great War. Therefore, it could be said that all European countries were responsible, in part, for World War I, as reflected in Documents 5, 6, and 7.
Source three is a World War I Australian propaganda poster created by the Australian State Parliamentary Recruiting Committee in 1917, focussing on the recruitment of soldiers, specifically sportsmen to volunteer to join the war as a method to replenish the front lines of the war in Europe. An associated message of the source questioned the validity and legitimacy of healthy, Australian men participating in sports while the other soldiers fought at the front in Europe. This situation strongly contradicted cultural loyalty, where Australians from the past and in the present have a traditional value of fitness and athletics, and have a competitive history in sports, with regional loyalty and political nationalism in terms of accommodating the
World War One and World War Two were both conflicts which involved Germany, due to the clashes among opposing alliances of empires. Repeating rifles and machine guns were used extensively in World War One and its modern version were used in World War Two creating a more deadly impact. Also, the use of planes played a minor role in World War, but became the prevailing force within World War Two. Although there were similarities, there were major differences in warfare; in World War One soldiers fought from lines of trenches and were supported by artillery, machine guns, infantry assault, early aeroplanes, tanks and poisonous gas. All of these methods were mostly stationary in nature with minimal mobility, World War Two on the other hand was
In the modern world, the click of a button can send an entire document from Belgium to America in seconds. In contrast, the Treaty of Ghent, which ended the War of 1812, took six weeks to reach the United States. Surely, the British troops at the Battle of New Orleans would have been grateful for current technology to inform that the war was already over. Their loss at this historic battle serves as a basis for comparing the efficiency of the technological changes in transportation, industry and communication, of the following years. Although these changes connected the nation’s regions to each other, it concurrently intensified the differences of early American societies.
World War I saw many casualties throughout its duration, and even though this caused a great uproar in the world, it had a lesser significance on social issues. This gruesome war was fought primarily with no motivation except for the fact it is a war with many allies. With whites owning the war, in terms of population and rank, African Americans became outcasts, only to be seen in regiments of their own race. Gaining some level of Authority amongst their black regiments, the African American troops were placed in trenches miles apart from whites. Discrimination against African American has always ended in violence, and though they served in the war, hostility and contempt still ensued them towards the end and shortly after World War I.
WWI (1914-1918) was a disastrous conflict between two sides - the Allied Powers and the Central Powers. It resulted in the victory of the Allies. There were plenty of Central Powers weaknesses, the Schlieffen plan, weak allies of Germany and their hard economic situation at the end of the WWI. However, it was not only due to these weaknesses, Allied Powers had a few strengths, that made them won. The most important of these are : greater army, control of the sea and support of the USA since 1917, while Germany was already running out of supplies and soldiers.
In the film Cold Hand Luke, directed by Stuart Rosenberg he uses Luke as a christ figure. Through Luke it helps reveal the big message of the film, the struggle in life to keep faith in God that can fade by cruel punishment and by unfair treatment by other beings. To begin, for one to fully grasp how Luke deepens the theme let's explain how he fits the archetype of a christ figure. As demonstrated by Thomas Foster, he outlines specific elements that qualify characters as a christ figure. Luke fits many of these characterics such as being around 33 years old, in agony, and being self sacrificing.
These highlighted such features as obstructions, existing pipelines and conservation areas. Taking the results of these studies into consideration the most direct pipeline route was used in order to minimize any impact on marine life. An additional reason for choosing the shortest route was to minimize the possibility of rupture which can cause severe environmental damage. Pipes were laid parallel to existing pipes if possible in order to produce less of an environmental impact and risk to other potential seabed users. Although it was preferable to avoid pipeline burial due to the length of time it can take for re-colonisation by marine species it was considered necessary to bury Pipeline A. Pipes A and B are both made of high quality corrosion resistant material, able to withstand high pressure and will be protected against upheaval buckling in order to avoid pipeline rupture which may result in oil spills.
