The Holocaust was one of the most horrific events in human history. It was the main catalyst that started World War II from 1941-1945. The Holocaust was a systematic genocide created by Adolf Hitler and his army of Nazi soldiers. Its main target was the Jewish population and was created to create a solution for the “Jewish question”. The Holocaust ended with the murders of 6 million Jewish men, women, and children; along with many other victims that didn’t fit in with the Aryan race. Nazi Germany created mass propaganda against Jews and spread anti-Semitism, vilifying Jews. The article often highlights several factors that show a lack of action and urgency from the American government. In Oates text, it states, “Immigration procedures were complicated and sometimes harshly administered. The laws and quotas were jealously guarded by Congress, supported by a strong, broad cross section of Americans who were against all immigrants, not just Jews.” (Oates, 261) America had implemented strict immigration policies that made it even more difficult for Jewish immigrants to seek refuge and asylum in the country. And even despite the ever-growing evidence of the mass brutality being committed by Nazi Germany against the Jews, the American government failed to take action to increase refugee quotas. Many antisemites were put in places of power in America as well causing much more restricted immigration policies to be put into place with the influence and their bias. Even though America did provide an effort to help and support Jewish refugees in trying to prevent the Holocaust, with the jurisdiction that they had they could have provided more. This was largely to blame for how incomprehensible the Holocaust was for everyone in the world. But even so, the American government could have provided more concerning immigration policies and such within its powers in such a cruel
