Yellow Cookie Experiment

PROCEDURE

My experiment was to test if color affects people’s sense of taste. My problem questioned, “Between a yellow sugar cookie and a blue sugar cookie, which cookie will people prefer?”. My hypothesis predicted that people will prefer the yellow cookie instead of the blue cookie because yellow is associated with happiness. To investigate my hypothesis I made cookie dough and then split the dough into two so i could color one half blue and the other half yellow. After cooking the cookies, i surveyed people to see which one they thought tasted the best. I did a total of two trials so my results would be credible and plausble. The only variable in my experiment was the color of the cookie.

To begin my investigation, I purchased all the ingredients that were needed for the recipe that i would be following. The recipe called for the following ingredients: flour, eggs, milk, butter, sugar, baking soda, and baking powder.After mixing the ingredients, i split the dough into two and colored one half blue and the other half yellow. Next, i baked the cookies in the oven and then left them out to cool so i could stored them in a plastic seal bag. As i surveyed people, they were almost definite that the cookies were different and one tasted better. One of the things i did notice that was interesting was that the younger the person was, the more they didn’t taste a difference between the cookies. I suspect that the younger you are, the more sensitive and less familiar you are with food coloring.
