Discussion of Treatment Plant: The Yonkers Wastewater Treatment Plant or Yonkers WWTP was constructed in the late 1920s and began its operation in the 1930s. Yonkers WWTP is top 5% in plant size. It consist of 9 pumping stations, processing 80 million gallons of raw sewage daily and up to 120 million gallons daily. Furthermore, the plant services 500 thousand people or half the population in Westchester County. The electricity bill of Yonkers WWTP is enormous, it currently cost them $1 million a month for electricity alone, therefore they are building engines that will save them millions. Currently, there is one engine that is providing for 40% of the Plant’s electricity thus they are looking for two more engines thus it will levitate tax in the neighborhood. The raw sewage composed of 99.5% liquid and .5% solids. To maximize energy efficiency, all liquid components of the treatment process flows completely by gravity. As a developing country, Fiji has an underdeveloped sewage system. According to “Fiji Urban Water Supply and Wastewater Management Project”, 50% of the Fiji population lives in Urban areas. Sanitation and clean water is a challenge for Fiji’s urban area notably during drought or natural disasters. Even in Fiji’s capital city, Suva city, the sewage system only covers 36% of the city.
