Colby Olson Mrs Geffre Speech Class April 11th, 2023 I love football, One of my favorite memories I will ever have is getting to play junior high football from my 6th through 8th grade years.. I was so mad that I had to wait until 6th grade to get to play real football. Some of my greatest memories I have made have been on a football field and I will never forget them. Tackling form is by far one of the most important parts of the game of football. Most injuries in football occur from improper tackling form. That is one of the many reasons why youth football is so important. Because in my opinion if you are truly worried about the injuries in football, Then removing youth football is the most foolish thing you can do. One of the biggest issues today in football is brain injuries. We all know about concussions, but there is another type of injury, one that happens long term called chronic traumatic encephalopathy or CTE. CTE occours after having several traumatic brain injuries, like concussions. The life span of a person who is affected with CTE is only about fifty-one years. However they are doing extensive research on how to better football helmets to reduce brain injuries. The newest football helmet on the market is the riddell axiom. It is designed not repell what is hitting it, but to absorb it. Keeping your brain from not moving as much in your skull. They are also making rule changes to protect football players aswell. They are changing rules on kickoffs in the nfl to where you do not get a run up on kickoffs. So that there are not as many big collisions which can cause injuries. You can also get ejected out of a game for targeting in college. Targeting is when you purposely lower your head or shoulder another players helmets which is a leading cause of concussions in football. So if you threaten to eject someone for that then they will shy away from doing
