Former professional football players are affected by concussions. It puts a bad and violent image on the NFL and the NCAA. Concussions have always been a problem in football and people have been coming up with all kinds of different ways to reduce the numbers of concussions for the safety of the players. Wearing a nice fitted helmet is very important because players don’t want their helmet to move around on their head. It is very important to “Wear the appropriate equipment...and wear it properly. Always close a chin strap if your sport requires a helmet”(Concussion Prevention). The helmet is the most important equipment in football because it protects the player’s brain and with players constantly bashing helmets there has been research on upgrading football helmets to reduce concussions. The Army Research Laboratory is coming up with new chin straps that “looks like a cord that connects under the chin of a helmet...it helps reduce severe head movement after a hit”(Swartz). There are lots of different kind of football team that grew up with different culture and some have good sportsmanship and others are dirty. Most concussions come from illegal and dirty hits and that is biggest reason why people get concussions because they are not playing by the rules. This is up to the coaches to teach and they need to “practice good sportsmanship...Teaching good sportsmanship is part of good coaching and good parenting minimizing unnecessary aggression on the field”(Concussion Prevention). The main focus for a coach coaching their team is playing with good sportsmanship and the NCAA and NFL have become a lot stricter with illegal hits and bad sportsmanship.
