Concussions are one of the most debated and controversial topics within the National Football League (NFL) today. During the time of Madonna doing her thing and the Reagan Administration in control medical professionals began to notice the dangers of concussions and the long-term effects of CTE. That has been a long standing problem within the NFL but has remained unaddressed until recently. Now days the conflict grabbed the attention of the media, the players, the fans, among others. Early in the league's history, players and coaches were not aware of the potential dangers and the possible long-term effects concussions could have on the players' brains. He pressured coaches and top football officials to change rules to make the game safer in what would became the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). These rule changes led to a decline in injuries and fatalities, for the next 60 years slight rule changes continually shaped the game to what it is today. Before all the studies and research came out, players didn't know enough about concussions come out of the game, so they continued to play through it. Concussions were not considered a serious injury and it wasn't known that long term effects could transpire from these injuries. After a big hit, veteran players would come off the field staring at the scoreboard. They know what questions will be asked, they lie to the medical professionals on the sideline. The mindset is to hide the symptoms in fear of being replaced. The National Football League didn't publicly announce there was a link between Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) and football until 2016.
