Youtube is Right for Taking Down Peoples Videos

Youtube is quickly becoming one of the biggest sources for news, education and entertainment for many people. However, many have criticized Youtube for not doing a good enough job of taking down content that violates its own guidelines. I disagree. Youtube does a great job managing its content.

There is simply no excuse for uploading content to Youtube that is against company guidelines. This is because on the Youtube website, the Youtube guidelines are publicly displayed in black and white in multiple languages. Each guideline even has an illustrated infographic to display what each rule really means.

This does not necessarily mean it will be taken down but it will be taken down if the moderator says it doesn't follow the Youtube guidelines. It is good that videos are not always taken down just because they have been flagged because if any random troll can take down any video we would have no gangnam style. 90 million people have flagged videos. The amount of content on Youtube has grown incredibly over the last ten years. In that same time period, their filtering has gone from a room full of people skimming through content every week to full scale thousands of algorithms and hundreds of full time employees looking through all of the videos all of the time. As an example of how much this system has improved, just recently, Youtube addressed a safety concern with a harmful viral trend through machine learning. There have been people challenging each other to ingest poisonous laundry detergent capsules (Tide Pods) and post video of themselves doing this. Youtube is identifying these videos and taking them down. Some are by title or flag, but Youtube has gone the extra step of creating an algorithm that identifies any video that includes a Tide Pod in a mouth purely by computer identification of those elements. This is one of many ways Youtube constantly improves its system for managing
