In the text read in class, “The Most Dangerous Game”, Rainsford displayed many instances where he persevered. Not only does General Zaroff respect Rainsford as a hunter, but his intentions are to now make this hunter his prey. The reader does not expect Rainsford to make it out alive but he now conquers the game General Zaroff has worked so hard on to master, hunting humans. Leading up to Rainsford killing General Zaroff, Rainsford showed his many different acquired hunting skills when fighting on the island. He made several different traps in attempt to kill Zaroff that ended in failure, but when Rainsford jumped into the ocean and swam to the house of General Zaroff, he showed signs of perseverance.
Sometimes in life a loser is actually the best kind of winner. The Lottery takes place in a small village where everyone knows each other. It is good to know a lot of people, but some characters may have a different side to them. Two people that showed different emotions to the story are Old Man Warner and Bill Hutchinson.
Jay Gould “standardized tracks” by buying multiple single railroads and connected them which formed the transcontinental railroad. The corrupted railroad king deliberately bankrupted businesses with water stocking then restore them into profitable businesses and bribed legislature officials to change laws to let him continue. J.P. Morgan was a broker for railroads and applied “Morganization” (which is the same as Jay Gould’s monopoly) to railroad and steel companies. J.P. Morgan also invested into Thomas Edison’s laboratory development of the incandescent lighting system.
Plessy v Ferguson 1896 June 7, 1892 Homer Plessy boarded a Louisiana train and as a black man chose to sit in the whites-only car. This was not the first time a black person broke the law to try to change it nor would it be the last. It was a particularly memorable incident because the term “separate but equal” came about and there was a negative impact on the lives of black Americans for many decades. Plessy was arrested for violating the Separate Car Act of 1890 and with the help of the Comite` des Citoyens, he hoped to change the world for black citizens in the United States. Unfortunately, John Howard Ferguson, then, later the United States Supreme Court got in Plessy’s way.
The Similarities The best part about these two story are that they were similar and many different ways. This early conversation between Whitney and Rainsford foreshadows the events to come. Rainsford will soon experience the position of the jaguar as he is hunted by Zaroff on Ship-Trap island. The brief exchange highlights Rainsford 's outlook on the sport of hunting. He expresses a lack of empathy for the plight of the hunted.
I think it is important to distinguish between the Dickerson and Miranda cases. Miranda was a state case, Dickerson was a Federal case. Congress enacted §3501 as a federal statute that in a nutshell addresses the “voluntariness” of a suspects statements, whether they were Mirandized or not. The Dickerson decision, which reversed a lower court’s decision, has caused much debate in the legal and academia communities as to whether the Supreme Court decided correctly. Many argue that Miranda was not constitutional based, but judicial common law, and §3501provides as much, or more protection to the accused.
Rosa Parks, an African American who suffered Jim Crow said, "Time begins the healing process of wounds cut deeply by oppression. We soothe ourselves with the salve of attempted indifference, accepting the false pattern set up by the horrible restriction of Jim Crow laws" (BrainyQuote). She is talking about people from her race at the time, oppressed deeply by these laws. A white person was forcing her to move seats to the back after an exhausting day. Jim Crow Laws were the reason that the white people were made the superior race.

"No problem on the planet that can 't be solved without violence. That 's the lesson of the civil rights movement- Andrew young. " First, the civil rights movement was a time when colored people wanted equality. It was a hard time for colored people because they didn 't have the same luxury as the whites.
“We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.”, says Maya Angelou putting in the spotlight the judgment of people based on how they look. The cases of Dred Scott vs. Sanford, Plessy vs. Ferguson, and Loving vs. Virginia all attempt to prove this point during the civil rights movement. These cases also make apparent the segregation of blacks in the court system. In 1864, the question of having freedom was brought into the courtroom by Dred and Harriet Scott in St. Louis City. Dred and Harriet Scott had been held captive in free territory and then brought back to a slave state.
General Robert E. Lee was born into aristocratic lifestyles that instill in him a strong believe in tradition. Lee grew up with money and privileges. He valued family, culture, and tradition. He disliked change. Lee believed that recognition and fortuity came through land ownership, and that should be no competition for status among men.
The Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified on July 9, 1868. It granted citizenship to all persons, born or naturalized in the United States. It forbids states from denying any person "life, liberty, or property, without due process of the law" or to "deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws." An example of Supreme Court Case involving the Fourteenth Amendment is Plessy v. Ferguson. Homer Adolph Plessy was a successful Louisiana businessman.
