In today’s society people are faced with the idea of racism. There are groups and riots that protest supporting the motto “black lives matter.” The problem of racism can be found in a very important part of the world today: medicine. Racism has been an issue in medicine for a long time. Although it may not be as extreme, everyone from patients to doctors is affected by these issues.
Racism in The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks Imagine your mother, sister, wife, or cousin was diagnosed with cervical cancer and you believed the doctors were doing everything in their power to help her. Only later you discovered her cells were used for research without consent and she was not properly informed of the risks of her treatment due to her race. This story happened and is told by Rebecca Skloot in The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. Skloot use of narrative and her writing style enhances the understanding of the story. Henrietta Lacks was a young black woman who was diagnosed with cervical cancer at John Hopkins Hospital.
According to David Goldberg 's “All Lives Matter” Disregards Race-Based Inequality," blacks in the United States aren’t supposed to completely belong. They are denied decent employment and education, being animalized, criminalized and killed daily. Goldberg makes a crucial point saying, “Black people have represented the country in the highest of ways while being maligned in the most malicious of ways.” He couldn’t be more right. Blacks are athletic, vocally talented, even superior enough to be president of the United States.
In Their Eyes Were Watching God (1937), Zora Neale Hurston quotes: “She knew now that marriage did not make love. Janie’s first dream was dead, so she became a woman” (Hurston 104). Literature, in Hurston’s view, serves as a form of didacticism that helps readers learn life lessons. Furthermore, Hurston expresses her views of literature in her manifesto “The Characteristics of Negro Expression,” which primarily expresses her views on the function of literature. In “The Characteristics of Negro Expression,” Hurston emphasizes reasons for African-American writing.
In the article, "Race as a Social Construct" Emanuel Lusca tells about his and other views on race stating how it's a social construction. Lusca fulfilled his goal to convince his spectators by giving multiple examples and facts. Lusca uses many writers work as examples to tell about their views on race. A couple of examples of the multiple writers work he uses are Ruth Frankenberg, John Searle, Franz Boas, and Takaki.

Critical race theory (or CRT) should not be taught to anyone from the grades of K-12. Many would have the citizens of America believing that the US is “systemically racist” and that we are, as a people, irredeemable in our ways, but that just isn’t true. Prior to finding all emerging themes, we must understand the theories that would be used in this research. Critical Race Theory (CRT) is distinguished by analyze all information from an asset base approach vs. a deficit view. I want to challenge the dominant ideology of the traditional student, what better way than by looking into the student population that would not be seen as high risk succeed in four year institution. For this research I believed that using experimental story telling would allow the reader to become more in touch with the student challenges. It is commonly acknowledged that racism is a type of injustice and that state law has the moral obligation, not just to avoid perpetrating racist acts against citizens, however, to give change to specific victims of non-state racism as an issue of public policy. Most debates over antidiscrimination law and policy focus on the degree of these obligations. As for the state 's commitment not to perpetrate racism itself, the question is whether antidiscrimination standards are fulfilled when the state stays away from all race-conscious state and non-state public activity, or whether the state should attempt race-conscious activities in specific circumstances in order to be a remedy to its own past and proceeding with racial segregation. Regarding the state 's obligation to be a remedy to non-state segregation, questions incorporate to what degree the state should come to the aid of private discrimination for any reason, and where the lines amongst open and private behavior should be drawn. What may appear to be wins in a country maybe be seen as defeats in another. Perspective and rhetoric and huge influences in understanding this complex period of the world’s history. That being said, I think the costs incurred by the USA because of the Cold War are the phenomena of the Red Scare, the internal hypocrisies of American Democracy, and the image of the USA due to the losses in multiple wars. To start of, due to the propaganda being used and the scientific prowess of the soviet union, Americans at home were terrified of communisms gripping on their shores.
During this English class, we learned about past and present traumas faced by Indigenous people in order to reconcile and learn from our mistakes. To reconcile and learn about past traumas we have to be able to see how discrimination still happens today and how racism is still present in our world today. Both the texts AlterNatives by Drew Hayden Taylor and The Summer of Bitter and Sweet by Jen Ferguson are appropriate for NBE3U-E because they teach students about the underlying stereotypes and discrimination towards Indigenous people as well as the violence that still happens today. From history of hundreds of decades, we have witnessed the great progress made by human, in technology and in society. But injustice always exists everywhere in this world. Injustice and unfair treatment could not be erased from the world easily. Just like the situation described by John Steinbeck, the immigrants faced injustice. But there are too many injustices that even worse in the world.
The relationship between race and racism is due to the fact that there are racial categories created, in order for particular social groups to be on top of the hierarchy. For example, the white group, which is on top of this racial hierarchy, established the notion of race in order to benefit themselves, which has led to racism among other minority groups. The ideology of a group being superior than others leads to racism. Ultimately, race is the product of racism, and racism is not the product of race (25).
In Sharon Olds poem, "The Race" she tells the story of how she rushed to the airport to fly home and see her dying father one last time. The poem is filled with suspense as aheraces throught the airport in order to reach the Gate that was departing in a few moments. Olds ' exssesive use of enjambments, metaphors, and personification demonstrates her sense of persistance all through the poem. Moreover she respectfully listens to the young man provide her instructions to catch another flight. As if from zero to one hundred she boosted up and ran to the next Gate.
