I take the position that Zoos should be banned Introduction Torture. Abuse. Death. That is what zoo animals suffer while being imprisoned in zoos. Zoos ignore their animals natural needs, such as the need to hunt, run, and be free. They claim that they help animals, but here are some reasons of how they don't. My first reason of why zoos should be banned is abuse. My second reason of why zoos should be banned is because they give their animals small habitats or cages to live in. My third reason is that the animals get bored and depressed and this causes harm to the animals. Abuse My first reason of why zoos should be banned is because most of all zoos abuse their animals. My first piece of evidence to support this is from a book I read called …show more content…
My first example of this is animals sometimes get really depressed so they rub their bodies against the bars, harming themselves. My second example of how they are injured and get diseases is that some animals bite at bars till their mouths bleed and birds pluck at their feathers till they are bald. The animals are doing this because they are depressed due to not being able to live in their natural habitat and live as they would naturally do. My third example is that if an animal gets depressed they also tend not to eat and pace in circles. There is even a illness named after depression in zoos called zoochosis. Zoochosis is a term which is used to describe animals in captivity with the behaviors listed above. It is caused by the confinement of animals and the disruption of families or packs right to live in their natural environment. Zoos may offer the reason of being able to study animals and their natural behavior up close as a good thing, but keeping animals locked up is not the way to do this. Lions and tigers sleeping all day in a cage is not natural and will not offer scientists, researchers, or children any accurate information about a species. If they wanted to study animals there is the option of going on a safari or simply opening up a
