The Unsolved Murder of Jonbenét Ramsey On the morning of December 26, 1996, Jonbenét Ramsey, a 6-year-old beauty pageant queen, was pronounced kidnapped in an emergency 911 call. Later that day, Jonbenét Ramsey was found dead in her family’s home in Boulder, Colorado. The case was flourishing among the media, following every step of the case. Eventually, the story would expand within the entire United States. The initial investigation was extensive, however, the killer was not found. Today, the world still doesn’t know who had killed Jonbenét Ramsey or why. People have speculated whether an intruder had killed Jonbenét Ramsey, or someone within the family. With all of the evidence that was presented in The Case of: Jonbenét Ramsey, it could be inferred that the person who killed Jonbenét …show more content…
In an interview conducted by Jim Clemente and Laura Richards, Judith Phillips, a friend of the Ramsey family at the time, says that “Burke had a bad temper, like he had a chip on his shoulder. He had hit Jonbenét” (Phillips – family friend). Burke Ramsey had hit Jonbenét Ramsey with the gold club roughly a year and a half before the murder, according to Phillips. This proves that Burke Ramsey was more likely to hit Jonbenét again, due to past behavior. When the Ramsey came home after a Christmas dinner, Pasty Ramsey had made a bowl of pineapple and milk, alongside a cup of tea, for Burke as a snack. In Jonbenét Ramsey’s autopsy, in the digestive tract, were small increments of pineapple. Jonbenét may have taken a piece of pineapple using her hands, causing Burke to release all of his anger. Burke, in an uncontrollable rage, would strike Jonbenét Ramsey in the head with the flashlight in the kitchen. With all of this evidence point to Burke Ramsey as the murderer, there is a shunned theory that an outsider infiltrated the Ramsey household and killed Jonbenét
He did not mean to kill her but he did want to hurt her cause she stole the pineapple. Patsy and John heard them fighting came down the stairs and saw JonBenét on the floor and they freaked out and panicked. They couldn’t let this get out into the public cause they were an eyesore and they new that if the word of Burke killing JonBenét they knew they would lose Burke too. So patsy and John did what they had to do. Patsy wrote a ransom note put it in the stairs, John “strangled” her and made it look like someone had broken in by smashing a window and tieing JonBenét up and hid her in the basement and locked the door.
JonBenet was the six-year-old daughter of Pasty and John Ramsey (Saferstein, 2015). This family, including JonBenet’s nine year old brother Burke, lived in Boulder, Colorado and sometime during December 25-26, 1996, JonBenet was murdered most likely inside the home (Saferstein, 2015). Pasty Ramsey maintains after a party with friends and family she put JonBenet to
Including being strangled by a rope around her neck, sexual assault, and other minor injuries. Meanwhile in the case of the unsolved murder of JonBenet, scientists continue to work toward answers using forensic science to discover unknown DNA, observing the unusual ransom note left behind at the scene, and even having theories with evidence of their own for who could be responsible. In the first place, JonBenet
Also, the handwriting was found to definitely not be his. As for the raping the object that was used was said to be very small; like the size of the end of a paintbrush (which was never found). Therefore I don’t think John murdered Jonbenet. Evaluation - Burke Ramsey: I don’t think Burke committed the crime either. Even though his behavior was odd.
First is that an intruder broke into their home, wrote the note, and killed JonBenét. Next is the mother Patsy, who might have had a motive of jealousy from the attention her daughter received, and thus killed her and had John help cover it up. Lastly, Burke may have unintentionally murdered his sister by hitting her with a flashlight after she took his food and ran, but John and Patsy staged it to be as if someone else had kidnapped and murdered her. If the crime scene had not been contaminated, if family and friends spoke to the police further, and if Burke would have spoken in depth about his childhood relationship with his sister – the investigation may have had further evidence to go upon. Nonetheless, the Boulder County attorney declared on October 13th, 1999 that there was not enough sufficient evidence to declare anyone as the culprit.
The only people in the house at that time were Patsey, John and Burke but in testimonies with the police the Ramsey’s claimed that Burke was
This means JonBenet was killed by being strangled with having a blow to the head. There was evidence of vaginal trauma as well. The police found a large black flashlight and a garrote in the house which many people believe are the murder weapons. Now knowing the nature of this crime, here is when mistakes happens. Once Pasty called about her missing daughter, police officer Rick French was the first to respond.
Burke was said to have gotten up to get a bowl of pineapple the night of the murder. JonBenet then took a piece, which was found partially digested in her dead body after being examined. She was also found to have a fracture in her skull. It is believed that out of rage from JonBenet stealing this piece of pineapple, Burke lashed out at her and chucked a flashlight at her head, greatly fracturing her skull. She was found dead in a hidden room in the basement.
Now the murder of Jon Benet Ramsey was a gruesome one, first Jon Benet was hit in the head with enough force to crack her skull open perfect enough, evidence shows that it was a flashlight because when it impacted it made a almost rectanuglar shape in the head. Second there was strangulation marks around her neck
On December 26th,1996, JonBenet's mother Patsy Ramsey claimed to have found a handwritten 2.5 page ransom note on their stairs. The ransom note also demanded $118,000 for JonBenet to have a safe return, otherwise they claimed JonBenet would be “beheaded”. The
Finding JonBenet like this. John Ramsey immediately ripped the tape from JonBenets mouth and carried her upstairs, this disturbed the crime scene which was horrific for the case, as the body/victim was the main evidence. This resulted in Patsy and John Ramsey being investigators' main suspects. All in all, with distinct knowledge of the note and relationships/hardships in the family, makes JonBenet family the more plausible theory for who murdered
In official crime scene photos located in the kitchen, there is a bowl of pineapple on the counter. Burke’s fingerprints were located on the bowl, and Patsy Ramsey’s fingerprints along with Burke’s were located on the glass next to the bowl. This is significant because of what was found in the autopsy. Undigested pineapple was located in JonBenét’s stomach, meaning she must have eaten it while she was conscious and alive, because swallowing is a voluntary action. According to the family, pineapple was JonBenét’s favorite snack, so perhaps she snatched a piece of pineapple out of Burke’s bowl with her bare hands, and Burke, who had a violent history with his sister, took the flashlight on the nearby counter and hit her over the head.
1- Assassination of JonBenét Ramsey The murder of JonBenét Ramsey shocked the entire world and became one of the most famous unsolved murder cases in US history. The investigation of this complex and mysterious crime remains one of the most difficult challenges for law enforcement authorities. The circumstances surrounding JonBenét's death, including the lack of signs of a break-in and the presence of duct tape over the victim's mouth, make the case all the more mysterious. The murder of JonBenét Ramsey is also notable for the fact that several theories and speculations have been raised over the years.
There were many reports filed that questioned the police’s overall handling of this case and defamation suits filed by the Ramsey family against media organizations. The first mistake that was made in this case was allowing family and friends in and out of the Ramsey house after a kidnapping was reported. The police officers should have immediately sealed off the crime scene and taken full statements from JonBenet’s parents to study their behavior. There was also no attempt to gather sufficient forensic evidence before JonBenet’s body was found. Once the body was found, John Ramsey carried it upstairs before there was any examination.
