The yuma territorial prison was established in 1875, it was the first building to have electricity in yuma and the residents were able to use that for themselves. The prison taught the prisoners how to read if they didnt know how to already and were taught different languages from other prisoners and other people. The prison had brought many people to yuma, it increased the population by 11.3 % in its time span. There were many rules to the prison and it held many types of prisoners. I am going to write an essay about the “Super Prison”, Alcatraz. As you may know, the government made a prohibition to ban all alcohol. That didn’t workout so well for the rest of the world. The gangsters and the thieves and all of the other bad guys, either started making the crops to make alcohol, or they bought it from other places/countries. They became unstoppable, and everybody was afraid of them.
After the prison was closed it was not being put to any good use. As time passed the prison hospital was turned into what is now known as “Yuma High School”. The students in the high school were not the only people learning at the prison. There was prisoners that
In “(No) Escape from Alcatraz,” Karen Stollznow proposes that because the history and nature of Alcatraz have distorted the truth about the notorious prison, we need to analyze and understand how facts can transform into inaccurate myths and legends. She notes, that the magnitude and unprecedented nature of the lengthy history surrounding Alcatraz, add to its mystery. The mystery of Alcatraz, Stollznow adds, combined with the harsh, isolated nature of the island, and the variety of its occupants provides the perfect recipe for the propagation of myths. The public expectations, of what a maximum security prison for infamous criminals should be, partly influenced by the conditions at the infamous Papillon prison, Stollznow asserts, caused the
During the 1920’s gang related crime was a serious issue. The leader of all this violence and corruption was a man named Al “Scarface” Capone (“Al Capone”). This organized crime, dehumanization, and corruption, became the ultimate image of Chicago for people throughout the world. He was largely immersed in things like gambling, prostitution, and the illegal sale of liquor. He was not convicted for any of his crimes, even the St. Valentine's Day massacre of 1929, until he was imprisoned for tax evasion (Horan).

When prohibition started it caused more people to do more crime including stealing, making their own wine, and killing those who didn’t do what they were told to do. This essay is going to explain about the history of Alcatraz and why it shut down. During prohibition many of the greatest criminals took advantage of the police during this time. This was when a cop named Homer C. Cumming had an idea for the prisoners. This included an island called Alcatraz.
Standardized tests are toxic to the future prospects of America: the students. The tests are prejudiced against minority test-takers as a result of biased questions. Students’ education is harmed due to narrowed curriculums and school closings. With the knowledge gained about standardized tests, many colleges have become “test-optional institutions” (Soares 3). In fact, according the article “Standardized Tests Discriminate Against Minority and Lower Income Students,” Wake Forest University went test-optional in 2009 and today there are over 870 test-optional colleges, representing almost 40 percent of all four-year degree colleges in America (Soares 3).
It was a misty and eerie morning on the streets of San Francisco. Where a college boy named Lucas and a group of classmates were driving on a trip to do a research paper. Their topic was Alcatraz. Ten years after the closure of a prison for the harshest criminals. They decided to go on a trip and see what the prison had become of.
