Next, a 10 mL beaker is filled with 3 mL of HCl and measure 10 mL of ionized water into a 140 mL beaker. Carefully turn on laboratory burner and start cleaning the Nichrome wire by dipping it into concentrated HCl acid. Hold the Nichrome wire on top of the flame and repeat the step until the wire doesn 't show any color. When the wire is clean, dip the wire again with some of the acid and dip it into the solution with the unknown compound in it. Place the wire back into the flame again and observe the color of the flame.
grams of the compound into 50 mL of distilled water and then “swirling” the mixture to dissolve the compound. Once all of the solutions were created, the nichrome wire must be cleaned. This was done by rinsing it with distilled water and then burning it in the flame. Next, each aqueous solution was burned and the results were recorded. In between each test, however, the nichrome wire was cleaned again.
For Herbert Run the conductivity level was 687µS/cm. The Turbidity level was 0 FAU and the Nitrate level was 0.02ppm. I accept my hypothesis and reject parts of my hypothesis. I reject that both streams have a high turbidity level. Both streams’ turbidity level is zero.
The purpose of this lab was to be able to use physical characteristics to determine the identity of an unknown compound. The data from this experiment classified aluminum as metallic; ascorbic acid, paraffin, palmitic acid, sucrose, graphite, and water as molecular; sodium chloride as ionic. In order to determine this, 3 tests were conducted. The first test was to test the conductivity of each substance at room temperature. In this test, only graphite and aluminum conducted.
[26]. The insulation resistance is measured using a mega ohm bridge or a mega ohm meter. An applied DC voltage is used to measure the insulation resistance of the connectors in kΩ, MΩ, or GΩ. If the connector is going to operate at special conditions, then the environmental requirements needs to be incorporated. The electrical insulation begins to age as soon as it is installed, this deterioration can affect the performance. It is used as quality control during production of the connector, preventive maintenance tasks and as a troubleshooting
Goals The primary goal of this experiment was to identify an unknown compound by running various tests to determine the qualitative solubility, conductivity, and pH value of the compound. Tests were also performed for the presence of specific cations and anions in the compound. The second goal was to discover the reactivity of the unknown compound by reacting it with different types of substances. The third goal of this project was to calculate the quantitative solubility of the unknown compound in water.
This experiment shows that water from different companies is different and that they can be identified based on their numbers given in the water quality reports. References ¹ Graber, C.; Twilley, N. The Bottle vs. Tap Battle Finale: Alkaline H2O, Lead Pipes, and,
There are many differences between saltwater and freshwater. Salt water has a more effective electricity flow due to the elements breaking down, which later becomes electrically charged ions. Fresh water also contains an electric flow, but it isn’t as forceful. Fresh water is for drinking, sanitation, transportation, ETC.
Finally, these were some of the reason why people decide to drink tap water instead of bottled water which must people believe is safer. Bottled water comes from natural resources or public resources that goes through a purification process, the water is then put into a bottle where it’s send to a retail store to be purchase by a consumer. Bottled water can have added minerals
Properties of Ionic and Covalent Substances Lab Report Introduction The purpose of this lab was to determine which of the following substances: wax, sugar, and salt, are an ionic compound and which are a covalent compound. In order to accurately digest the experiments results, research of definitions of each relating led to the following information: ionic compounds are positive and negatively charged ions that experience attraction to each other and pull together in a cluster of ionic bonds; they are the strongest compound, are separated in high temperatures, and can be separated by polar water molecules. A covalent compound forms when two or more nonmetal atoms share valence electrons; covalent compounds are also
Properties of Substances Express Lab 1)The purpose of this lab was to compare the physical properties of different types of solids and how the properties of solids are determined by their intermolecular forces and their intramolecular bonds. Then we were to classify each type of solid as either ionic, metallic, non-polar molecular, polar molecular, or network. Paraffin wax classified as a non-polar molecular, Silicon dioxide was classifies as a network, Sodium chloride was classified as ionic, Sucrose was classified as polar molecular and Tin was classified as metallic. (2)The intermolecular forces that are present in Paraffin wax are dispersion forces, because it is non-polar and carries a negative charge. Followed by Sucrose that has
There are many ways to make your water less corrosive as stated previously and it is helpful and safer even though it does come with its disadvantages it is a helpful way to protect the human body without causing damage to it. In conclusion, yes our water is indeed corrosive with harmful chemicals due to the copper or lead pipes in the houses. Our water is made up of used water and contaminated water
The last person I interviewed asked if energy drinks had a higher voltage compared to water or if they had the same voltage. All liquids have a voltage this is where we get our energy from. The reason energy drinks have a voltage is because of the high amount of caffeine they have in them and the reason water has a voltage is because of the process that water goes through to be cleaned. The water particles rubbing together cause friction giving the water a static electric charge. In order to test which energy drink has the highest voltage to give the most energy I am going to use a zinc nail, copper wire, a volt meter and four different energy drinks and water.
The Benefits of Tap Water Water is essential to life. The U.S. consumes billions of gallons of water each year. The majority of people assume bottled water is superior to tap water. One possible reason people are attracted to bottled water is bottled water companies have fancy labels promising the purest and freshest water.
It also is used for hair, baby formula, drinking, cooking, ice, animals, plants, iron, CPAP, and health issues. Water distillers can produce about 5,000 gallons of water per day. Distilled water tastes flat because people are used to small amounts of minerals. If you only drink distilled water it could kill you. Distilled water is acidic and is recommended as a way to draw poisons out of your body.
