Play is one of the most important qualities’ of a child, they are born with the innate drive to play, this means they are born with the determination that they want to play, and it is natural and built into them. Every child needs to have play in their lives, it is a very important part towards their social, emotional, physical and intellectual development. Play is how children learn new skills and how they develop, it is not only fun for children, it helps to build their confidence up, they also feel loved safe and happy when they have the opportunity to play. One of the rights children have is to play, they should be able to have the freedom and time to play in the setting and in general. It gives children a variety of opportunities, such as helping them to develop in the prime areas of development. Personal, Social and Emotional development, children are given the chance to get fresh air and run around, this will help them feel better about themselves as they are releasing energy and doing what they like. Therefore they will feel happy, it will also help their socialisation because they will get the chance to talk to and meet new friends as they play, this may be from playing a long side others or they may play with others, this would help them develop relationships. Physical development can help their health care, as they will be moving around, they will know that exercise is good for them and understand they need it. The EYFS handbook links to this also as it explains that children should know how important good health and physical exercise is, and a healthy diet and should be able to talk about ways to stay healthy and safe. (EYFS profile, 2017). Children may also take part in what is called 'risky play' this is where they take part in rough tumble play, climbing tree's ,jumping around and just playing outside also exploring alone. This type of play is effective as the EYFS handbook states. Children having the opportunity to experience new things outside is very good as it is said that it helps to improve how they behave, their creativity, and their strength, and health. Playgrounds that have natural objects such as plants and trees and also challenges in height help improve their cognitive behaviour. Children love being able to take risks in their lives at some point, it helps them learn from them, and it will help with their problem solving and thinking skills also, as they will need to think before they do anything that may be dangerous, for example climbing. They need to think if it is a good idea, or whether it
