Tatum Werkman Ms. Mitchell English III - 1st Hour 24 May 2023 Doubt In the play 12 Angry men, Reginald Rose portrays the theme of doubt. Doubt is a feeling of uncertainty or lack of conviction. He portrays this by giving us a murder trial of a young boy to look at and think about. Each of the jurors doubted eachother with how they feel about this case and how they think they should proceed at the end of this case. Some might say that juror three ws being too rough to the boy but some might say that juror eight wasn’t harsh enough for the boy's consequences. Juror three was full of doubt. He was to all the other jurors and full of doubt to the evidence of the boy. Juror three clearly understood all the evidence given but I doubt that he took the time to think about it in the boys shoes or if that’s not really what happened. The evidence the jurors received made juror eight doubt that he could be guilty. A piece of evidence that I saw doubtful was when the boy had said that the knife that was “used” had fallen out of his pocket. It seems like such a coincidence that this happened and the boy just happened to have his knife fall out of his pocket. The timing of all this is what's really doubtful to me. Another piece of evidence that seemed off to me was when the old man claimed that he heard yelling then saw the boy running out. I doubted this because there's no way the old man could have heard all of that and saw him run out in that little time. The old man's room was located downstairs and he was asleep so there’s no way he could have made it up the stairs in time to see. The old man lived downstairs and had to use two canes to get around. There's no way he could have climbed up the stairs with his two canes after getting out of his bed and getting out of his
