Anne Frank was a 13 year old Jewish girl and was born June 12, 1929. World War II started September 1, 1939 and lasted until September 2, 1945. This war was fought between two allied groups of countries. On one side, the Axis powers, which included Germany, Italy, Japan, and a few other smaller counties. On the other side, the Ally powers, which included Britain, France, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India, the Soviet Union, China, and the United States. World War II was fought because a man named Adolf Hitler came to power. Hitler did not like Jewish people he blamed the Jews for all of Germany’s problems. Therefore, when Hitler came to power, he sent Nazi’s into the Netherlands, France, Poland, Holland and everywhere else Hitler could send his troops. In Amsterdam, which is in the Netherlands, where the Frank family resided in hiding, the Nazi’s came to take the people of Jewish religion to concentration camps. The Frank family was eventually taken to different concentration camps after 2 years of hiding which they started in early July of 1942. During these two years of hiding, Anne kept a diary. Anne took the initiative to make everyone presents. She made Mr. Van Daan a home-made cigarette, Mr. Frank a scarf, Mrs. Frank a coupon, Margot a crossword puzzle book, Mouschi a toy made out of Anne’s ballet shoe strings, and Mr. Dussel, earplugs. This supports Anne’s quote, “In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart,” because despite the conditions, Anne took her own time, and the initiative to make everyone’s Hanukkah enjoyable by making them presents.
