It also sparked the rise of populist political movements which gave the people more control over the happenings of the country. Finally, it also led the government to take a more activist role in the economy which allowed them to regulate and balance the stock market. All this ensured an economic disaster like the depression would never happen again while also improving the economic climate for everybody. Arguably the most important progression was that of womens rights. “In 1929 Thanks to the petitions of Henrietta Muir Edwards, Nellie McClung, Louise McKinney, Emily Murphy and Irene Parlby, women become persons under the law”(Bruin,Cruickshank). When women became persons they gained many new rights. The biggest of which was the ability to work in the senate and parliament, however it also disallowed women to be denied rights by legal loopholes that had previously existed because they were not considered persons. During the 20s and 30s most groups of women were given the right to vote.
