In 1984, George Orwell's vision of the future is relevant to the events of today’s contemporary society. Parallels can also be drawn between the tactics of the fictional Party and O’Brien and the tactics of today’s politicians and political groups. Orwell’s views and hypothesis in 1984 are very significant to today’s culture. The government is now capable of seeing and knowing every single thing that every person does. They can monitor every phone call, email, text, and social media move that every person makes. Every day the government is gaining more power and people are losing power. Even things as simple as Newspeak are used today’s generation such as the English language being simplified down to words like “OMG.” We have voluntarily given up so much of our freedom and also our right to privacy. Most people either text, chat, message, or use some kind of technology or website that allows you to type people messages back and forth. In today’s messaging we have seemed to have lost our vocabulary along the way. Instead of people writing the simple question “What are you doing today?”, they have simplified the whole sentence into something like “Wut r u doin 2day?”. We have picked up the habit of limiting what we say to others. Instead of using real words to talk to each other we now use acronyms or abbreviations in almost every sentence we type. Also, the language Newspeak in the book was invented to help control the thoughts of the people, this is also happening in today’s society. Every time someone hears the word “racism” they most likely think hate. But the word hate simply does not mean racism, people are taught to think this way so that it affects their political and social
