Are we living in 1984 today? Imagine that you are watched every second of the day, even in your own home. This is the kind of society that George Orwell describes in 1984. It describes a dark society were the citizens are very poor, the party has all power and they watch everything you do. But the question is, are we living in 1984 today? Since Oceania is a dictatorship, ruled by the Party, they control what information that gets out to the citizens. They use censorship to control the news and force people to never turn off their TV. By doing this they have the opportunity to make sure that all their propaganda gets out to the public. There is similar things in the world in 2017, were internet has become a very large part of our lives. In a TED-talk, by Eli Pariser (Beware online "filter bubbles"), she talks about something called filter bubbles. This is how the internet sort out what it thinks we want to see and read about. Snap-map, as it is called, gives you the opportunity to see where your friends are located and for them to see where you are located. By this feature you can be watched all the time and people could easily stalk you if they wanted to, but this feature is possible to turn off. Victoria Mithell (theguardian.com, 6/8-17) writes about another way that we are being watched. She states Companies such as Amazon use drones to watch our homes to find the perfect ads to give us based on what we need. She mentioned an example where roof tiles needed to be changed and the person living in this house got an ad for new roof
