Imagine a world where nothing is private. A world where every move you make will be seen, every conversation heard, every message read and every personal detail known. For the people in the book 1984 by George Orwell this [image] is real. Run by a government group called ¨Big Brother¨ the people of Oceania rarely ever happen to have a moment of privacy. Although fiction, with growing advanced technology, Orwell’s nightmare is becoming more of a reality every day. In a recent TED talk Edward Snowden, who was removed from our country, states that ¨the powers of Big Brother have increased enormously¨ referring to our society. Snowden includes that the NSA is a huge factor in this invasion of privacy, that they were using metadata that allowed basically a “warrantless wiretapping” which gave the [NSA] the ability to see the entire country's phone records - things like who you're talking to, when, and where you may have traveled. …show more content…

In another TED talk deputy director of NSA, Richard Ledgett claims that the NSA try to keep the public's records “transparent”, but does not deny they have the ability to check these records. Ledgett explains that [NSA] looks mainly for patterns of strange or terroristic behaviors and are not interested in the public's everyday phone records. Still, we are left questioning who is right?
