In 1984 Winston transition into being completely against the party a rebel into a reformed party member by force Winston essentially fights to keep his sanity and respect for himself as the party tries to torture him until he breaks. In chapter 3 Winston’s first stage it represented a number of breaking and general degradation essentially of his character. Winston Is accused of crimes from sexual perversion to spying. It is this to humiliate Winston destroy him from the inside out. Winston admits to all these crimes and gives in to the pressure of Big brother. The rebellion against the party is not possible because the party dies have absolute power and influence of Oceania. “Power is in tearing human minds to pieces and putting them again new shapes of your own choosing”( ) Big brother believe in putting fear into the people’s mind and confusing them to believe what they believe is right. Winston is reduced to not having the power of reason he confesses to crimes he didn’t even do as if he does not have a mind of his own the essentially the first step toward his transformation. Suddenly he started to fell awfulness come over him a shock of horror the sweat rolled down his face and down his backbone. He had heard himself wail aloud As Winston started to get tortured he felt the pressure and the heat he could not take O’Brien punishments much longer he gave in his love and rebellious acts it was to much. “Suddenly he started up with a shock of horror.
