1) Isaac Hourwich’s purpose in writing this book is to oppose the claims of the Immigration Commission as there are also many stereotypes of Immigrants created by Native born Americans and also challenge the findings of the Immigration Commission. Hourwich uses his economic aspects to explain that Immigrants do not cause the labor market to decline, decreases wages, and increase unemployment in the United States. Most of the native-born Americans fear that as the rate of Immigration increases, it might hurt the American wage-earners. Therefore, there is an assumption that most American workers made was that “undesirable” Immigrants should be out of the country and keep the American workers busy. (82)

The last question that needs to be asked relates to what would be changing about Queequeg if he were to be reborn. As Queequeg is likened to being between a caterpillar and a butterfly, it is important to examine what Queequeg’s caterpillar and butterfly could be. An answer may be discovered in Queequeg’s arm, as Ishmael describes it, “This arm of his tattooed all over with an interminable Cretan labyrinth of a figure” (Melville 37). A labyrinth, on the surface, is something to escape – though it is not Queequeg’s arm itself that is the labyrinth, but the tattoos. While tattoos are permanently etched into skin, they are ultimately an addition to the usually unblemished skin of a newborn.

A perfect example of Watership Down’s unique culture is a chapter called The Story of the Blessing of El-ahrairah. It describes how Frith created the world, and how El-ahrairah, whose people couldn’t be contained, were to be hunted by a thousand enemies. Frith also blessed El-ahrairah with the gift of speed, so that his wit can ensure his people’s safety. (Adams 34-37) Shortly after the story comes the rabbit phrase “Hoi, hoi u embleer Hrair, M’saion ulé hraka vair,” which translates to “Hoi, hoi, the stinking Thousand, We meet them even when we stop to pass our droppings.” (Adams 51) &)

Traveling from Nantucket, Massachusetts, to South America, the Essex met its doom in the Pacific Ocean in November 1820, when a sperm whale attacked and destroyed the ship. The crew, adrift in their small whaleboats, faced storms, thirst, illness and starvation, and were even reduced to cannibalism for survival. However, succeeding in one of the great open-boat journeys of all time, the few survivors were picked up off South America. Their story, spread widely in America in the 19th century, provided inspiration for Melville 's tale of a ship captain seeking revenge on an elusive whale.

The Guardian of the Sea Long ago when the world was new, it infested with unholy monsters and creatures that even the gods have trouble controlling. Even the mightiest of ships were capsized from the great waves that the monstrous beast created with it’s movement. Finally the king of the vikings, King Adelmar had enough. Hemingway presents the elements of failure and suffering in The Old Man and the Sea by depicting several instances of suffering and failure which the Old Man, Santiago, has to go through throughout the course of the novel. According to Hemingway, life is just one big struggle. His skiff even had a sail which bore great resemblance to “the flag of permanent defeat”, with its multiple patches all over.
