There were claims on the Manton case study that Dixon had prior history of engaging in sexual activity at his high school, which led Dixon to be suspended twice for the prior sexual acts. This book is very relevant today, many of the experiences that happened to the characters still happen today, people aren’t lynched as often anymore. But racially motivated crimes still happen and the internet allows for people to get worked up into a frenzy even if there was no actual crime committed by the accused. The alleged rape of Sandra Teal caused the white people of Duluth to be angered to the point where they turned into a mob that quickly turned into a riot. This event seems similar to the events of Ferguson Missouri in August of 2014. The riots in Ferguson started because the people did not wait for the facts to emerge, they instead listened to anyone who was telling them something that they wanted to hear.
I believe that Danforth, the judge, is to blame. He chose to listen to the girls as a verifiable source of information. He makes the ultimate ruling on who lives or dies based on their accusations. He created more fear instead of peace within the community. He didn 't question their credibility until someone else brought that issue to light.
Ewell v. Robinson, The Rape Case that Rocked the Nation By: Hailey Ellwanger After hours of jury deliberation, the case of Ewell v. Robinson has reached its conclusion. The jury finding the defendant Tom Robinson guilty of raping Mayella Ewell. This case is a prime example of the injustice that can occur when juries listen to their prejudices instead of the evidence. The two different sides of the story vastly differ, the jury ruling in favor of the Ewell’s.
In the film Sleep Dealer, Technological connects have a negative effect on human connections. In the world that the film takes place in, everything relies on node connections with most developed country being connected through Sleep Dealers. The problem with this however, is when nodes and technology become so heavily relied upon, it alters the way people interact and actually disconnects people. Although the characters are literally connected, they are disconnected from reality and others. This is shown through the interactions between Memo and Luz, the actions and thoughts of Memo, and the environment the characters live in.
Although many may argue that the accusations presented by the plaintiffs seemed quite plausible, further investigation proved many such claims to be false. For example, although Price and Bates accused the young African-American men of raping them on the freight train, “the Scottsboro doctor who examined the girls less than two hours after the alleged rapes […] was able to show on cross examination that the girls were both calm, composed, and free of bleeding and vaginal damage” (Linder). The fact that a certified doctor was able to prove that the young women were virtually unhurt after the supposed rapes shows that the girls were lying to the court. Although their claims made sense to the prejudiced judicial system, Price and Bates were simply using their positions in society as young white women to gain unwarranted sympathy from the all-white jury. Because scientific evidence was able to contradict the prosecution’s allegations, it was evident that false accusations were being made by the plaintiffs.
Rebecca, I don 't believe the "24 Hour Whore" comment was used in making her case by stating it was directed toward her. As it reads in the case, Simmons states "I was a 24 hour whore. All I ever thought about was sex" (Bennett-Alexander & Harrison, 2012). He uses the letters sent by contemporary Col. Robert G. Shaw to his wealthy family back in Massachusetts as the historical foundation of the movie while imagining conversations between characters. Through Col. Shaw’s eye, we are able to uncover the birth, the development, and the end of the 54th Massachusetts Regiment, the first colored regiment fought in Civil War. Just like any other war movie, Glory has several battle scenes that were unpleasantly bloody, yet they managed to stay authentic.
Sexual harassment is a common problem for women in the workplace. The trauma they suffer as a result is extensive. More than half a million women work in the fields and a majority are undocumented immigrants. The documentary Rape in the Fields, addresses some of the struggles these workers face. Due to their immigrant status the women are powerless, subject to unwelcome sexual advances and unable to seek help from the authorities.
Rape on the Night Shift is a documentary about the sexual assaults that some of the janitors suffer while working at night. This documentary reveals the injustice that these workers have to go through because most of them are undocumented and they don’t know their rights. The experiences of woman in this documentary is correlated with the feminist theory, the idea of seeing women unequal to men and the idea of the men having the power to control women. Indeed, the documentary let us see the gender inequality, exploitation, and the de-valuing of woman’s work. We see the feminist theory in the documentary when the managers or supervisors sexually abuse of their workers.
Second character will be Jules (The Whore). “The Whore” role in horror movies was to simply sexualize her. Like on the 39-minute and 46-second mark of the film where Jules was drugged by the technicians, so she will act dumb and horny, then later on Curt and she had sex in the forest while the technicians are watching (Goddard). The movie also introduced her in the beginning by presenting her as a blonde chick. This character archetype is also known as “The Cheerleader”, “Slut” or “The Blonde Bimbo.
Gender roles and stereotypes are commonly known throughout society and continuously demonstrated as film as well. Through the work of director Judd Apatow, we can compare these stereotypes to the portrayal of gender in Knocked Up and identify how this film pokes fun at gender stereotypes. As we watch this film and follow the story line of Allison and Ben, we can see how Apatow reversed the gender roles of the two lead characters, Ben and Allison and how this effected the films meaning. In romantic, geek centered comedies such as “Knocked Up”, the roles of men and women are often reversed.
The short documentary “Child of Rage” presents an example of how experiencing abuse as a child can shape the child later in life and how some children can recover. The intrafamilial abuse that Beth experienced as a one year old affected her behavior later in her childhood when she was adopted. Beth was also able to recover from some of the effects of the child abuse she experienced once she was separated from her adoptive family and taken to a special home. Beth experienced intrafamilial abuse at the hands of her biological father after her mother passed away when she was one.

Ben Whittaker (Robert De Niro) joins this company as a senior intern. Ben is retired, a widower and seventy-years-old. After multiple interviews Ben is hired and is assigned to work with Jules, and almost immediately told by Jules that she doesn’t need him. After patiently waiting for Jules to ask him to do something Ben takes initiative and decides to help others around the office.
