In 2014, only 58.2% of eligible people voted in the presidential election. Over hundreds of years, Americans have fought for their right to vote. But nowadays, the irony is that people will complain about their president or their representatives, but do not actively engage their right to change it by simply going out and voting.
The most common reason for not voting is apathy. People often do not want to vote because of political conflict. It is not uncommon for people to want to turn away due to the fact of the candidates usually always slander their opponents, and people do not wish to have anything to do with that; they wish to justify that it is nothing but business with Americans being the pawns of the government.
