Imagine a world where murder was legal. Abortion, the killing of an innocent life, makes this a reality. I chose the social justice issue of abortion and going against the basic human right to life. Abortion, many people think it should be legal, but it is letting women get away with a murder with no punishment. Although abortions may be for medical or safety reasons, nevertheless it is killing an innocent child and can hurt the woman receiving the abortion. An additional reason abortions should be illegal is it is being used frequently as a backup option for an irresponsible decision made by a woman which is not getting a reciprocated punishment when there are many other safer, gentler options. This could lead to regret, depression, and this can cause additional struggles when trying to get pregnant responsibly. “A 2013 Canadian study found that women who have had abortions are more than twice as likely to have a very early preterm child (26 weeks gestation). The risks were 71% higher at 28 weeks gestation and 45% higher at 32 weeks. 5 (Premature births carry serious health risks for the baby. Instead of them owing up to their actions they are simply pushing them away. Now that this is brought to the attention of many, abortion levels have started to decline but illegal abortions have increased. “ The number of abortion providers has been declining since 1984, after it reached a peak of 2,908 providers in 1982.” - Source 3 (History of Abortion) Even with many alternative options to abortion many women still choose it. "There's always a reason why a woman is choosing abortion," said Heather Lawless, co-founder of the Reliance Center in Idaho, which counsels women against abortion and offers free pregnancy tests and screenings for sexually transmitted infections. But, alternatively by making abortion illegal we can help many women to find other options than an abortion to better their lives. The women who want abortion, that are not for medical or safety reasons, are using it to cover up their irresponsible actions.
