For many people, the ideas of science and religion are complete opposites. Religion and science both offer explanations for why life and the universe exist. Science relies on testable empirical evidence and observation. Religion relies on subjective belief in a creator (INEOS, 2014). Even though they offer different explanations, those explanations can be used together to create a fuller understanding. In the film “Contact”, faith and science seem to be at a constant standoff. Those who hold a scientific belief about the world have a different theory for its creation. Religion and Christianity touch on the topic of how the world was created. The world could not have been made out of nothing; it needed someone or something to create it. In the case of Christianity, they believe that the world was created by God. Science can offer an explanation for the world that was created by Christ. There is so much complexity behind the systems and functions of the earth and due to the curious nature of humans, they often go searching for answers.
