Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy Book Review This novel is set in 1912. Turner Buckminster, the son of Reverend Buckminster (preacher in Phippsburg, Maine), has just moved from Boston, Massachusetts to Phippsburg, Maine and is constantly being teased for simple misunderstandings, not to mention being automatically disliked by the boys of Phippsburg for playing baseball differently than the “cool” boys do. Turner meets a girl, Lizzie Bright Griffin, befriends her, despite his difficulty with social situations.
The realistic fiction novel, Speak, written by Laurie Halse Anderson, begins with a confused, depressed, and alone 14- year old girl named Melinda Sordino. She enters her freshman year at Merryweather High School in Syracuse not knowing many people. Even on the very first day, Melinda feels like an outcast. She realizes that everyone belongs to a clan, whether it was the Jocks, Cheerleaders, Marthas, Goths, ect. Melinda, however, is clanless.
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, this book is a about a sixteen years old girl name Starr who witness her childhood best friend Khalil killed by a white police officer. This novel is an important book that can be used to talk about race relations and how it affects others. When you see this situation that happened to Khalil, it going to make people scare of police officers. Maybe they don’t realize but being paranoid about a race can affect other and it make do. Make them understand why the black movement exist.
In the novel The Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz and in the film Stranger Than Fiction the audience encounters two heros, Oscar Wao and Harold Crick. Throughout the lives of both heros I identified similarities and differences in the characteristics of each that make them their own unique hero. In Oscar’s life, he seeks for love and for someone to love him back, which he has a difficult time accomplishing. Whereas in Harold's story, he attempts to determine who is writing his story so he can prevent them from ending his life. Both heros, Oscar and Harold, proceed on journeys that determine their fate.

The book Flush, by Carl Hiaasen is a hooking book about a boy Noah who wants to prove his dad right to everyone in the town about Dusty Muleman mistreating the water in the ocean with his casino boat. The setting takes place in the Florida Keys. When Noah is trying to catch Dusty but it isn’t easy! The character’s motivation is to make his dad proud and to get his dad to come out of jail. So, he, his sister, and an adult friend Shelly make a plan to catch him in the act.
High school, it’s a necessary part of life, yet no one wants to be in it. This is the case and more for freshman Melinda. Melinda is the protagonist in the book Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson. She is going through a very rough time that she is having trouble dealing with on her own. Before her freshman year of high school she was raped at a party, no one knew that this happened.
“A Good Man is Hard to Find” by Flannery O’Connor is a short story where the author uses irony, symbols, images, omniscient narrator as well as other rhetorical strategies to expose beliefs and personalities trough the characters in the story. Flammery O’Connor introduces the grandmother of the story as an older women from the south who considers herself morally superior than everyone because she is a lady. “You wouldn’t shoot a lady, would you?” (O’Connor 22).

Anne Beatty is a schoolteacher in South Central Los Angeles who has seen a lot in her career. Although she only tells of a few different experiences in her essay, she gives the general idea of what the school and area is life. Not only does she tell stories, but she does a lot of reflecting throughout the essay about what she experiences. The essay focuses on the intense violence in the area and how common deaths are in the area that they have a routine in place at her school. Beatty uses persuasion techniques in her essay to gain the reader’s attention, get them to agree with her position, and have them see the experiences through her eyes.

The authority of tradition in the society Kingston lived in is very oppressive. Living in a male-dominated society forces Kingston to live in curiosity and fear due to her aunt 's act of adultery. Brave Orchid, Kingston 's mother, draws on Chinese myths and experiences to teach Chinese traditions and customs to her daughter. They are not usually fact, so Kingston has to decipher what is real from what is fantasy. The story opens up a world of imagination for her about not only what it is like for her aunt, but what it may be like for her.
