Even heroes can have a dark side. There are superheroes who can do no wrong, those who are completely pure. Think of heroes like Superman, Spiderman, or Captain America. Yet, there are also heroes who are not pure and can possess a deep rooted rage. Those heroes are people like Batman, and Beowulf. These heroes aren’t evil villains, but there is a reason behind their actions and why they chose the life that they do. Batman’s rages stems from the death of his parents. As a young children Bruce aka Batman watched his parents be murdered before his very eyes when they were held at gunpoint by a mugger. The characters may not always enjoy being violent and dark, but there are many times where they do enjoy it. I am saying this because of this quote, “So the Shieldings' hero, hard-pressed and enraged, took a firm hold of the hilt and swung the blade in an arc, a resolute blow that bit deep into her neck-bone and severed it entirely, toppling the doomed house of her flesh; she fell to the floor. The sword dripped blood, the swordsman was elated. Beowulf was joyful after killing the beast. He didn’t feel guilty, regretful, or sad. Beowulf only felt pure happiness. After World War World 2 Batman was filled with rage in the comic book world and he pushes a huge statue onto a crowd of Mongols, crushing them to death These were innocent people who’s country just happened to form an attack, but Batman was so upset about the attack he took it out on others. Strength is also the emotional or mental qualities necessary in dealing with situations or events that are distressing or difficult. Both characters possess some immense strength in both aspects. No average person can save Gotham or defeat a killer monster. Beowulf shows his strength throughout the novel many times, but this particular time caught my eye. "Well, friend Unferth, you have had your say about Breca and me. But it was mostly beer that was doing the talking. The truth is this: when the going was heavy in those high waves, I was the strongest swimmer of all." Beowulf is even showing strength when he isn’t fighting off a monster and is simply challenging a friend. This shows that he isn’t just strong when the going gets tough, but he is strong through out life in general. Bruce Wayne shows strength while he is training to become Batman.
