For many years, children and even adults have looked at superheroes as iconic figures. Batman and his alter ego Bruce Wayne are among the most looked up to. Even though they are the same person, they are very different. Batman’s characteristics have a lot to do with Bruce Wayne’s past. Batman can be compared and contrasted with epic heroes. Batman and Beowulf have a lot of similarities and differences. This is also true about Batman and King Arthur. The reason comic book heroes have played such a big role in society is that they are a symbol of pure goodness in a place where that is rare. Average people can often relate to comic book heroes and plots. This is also a big reason why they have so much popularity. They are able to put extraordinary dreams inside the minds of ordinary people. People want to be like the heroes in the comic books they read. They both had loved ones killed and make it their mission to avenge them. As a child, Hercules had a curse put on him by his mother, Hera, that he would one day kill his family. When this happened, Hercules was furious at himself and very sad. Even though it was not his fault, he felt that somehow he needed to get his honor back. Hercules set out on a quest called the Twelve Labors where he killed monsters. Completing his quest not only did well for the world, but it also put him at peace for what he had done (Bonnell). Hercules’s determination and persistence are very similar to Batman’s. Just like Hercules, Batman not only did good for Gotham, but he also put himself at peace with his parents deaths. It made him feel like he was doing everything in his power to avenge his family. They both had the mindset that once they do their best to finish the quest of stop crime in the city, then and only then could the grieving of their loved ones
