Our third president of the United States, Thomas Jefferson, had great intentions when he was elected into the presidency. The actions that took place during his eight years in office reflect the principles that Jefferson believed in, and that is what he wanted to achieve. One of Jefferson’s beliefs was having an agricultural-based economy and life, rather than commerce and federal power. “He believed a person who owned a farm and worked the land would be economically independent, and that independence would develop and preserve wisdom, self-control, courage, and fortitude.
Napoleon Bonaparte was the emperor of France after the French revolution. He was a great leader, but also might be considered a dictator of sorts. After the revolution Napoleon was said to have brought peace to the people of France in a time of distress. When Napoleon was leader he ended up both upholding and undermining the ideals and goals of the French revolution. Napoleon upheld the revolution by creating equality for all men, and by making a meritocracy, but he also undermined it by taking away most if not all of the women's rights, and taking away freedom of the press.
Application to Political Leaders Two political leaders who exemplified statesmanship in America’s history are George Washington and Patrick Henry. Both statesmen were influential in the founding, building, and maintaining of America’s core values and beliefs during their time in their roles as American statesmen. The Founding Fathers exemplified statesmanship as they composed the founding documents and established the United States of America. One of the most notable of the Founding Fathers is George Washington. Not only was George Washington one of the Founding Fathers, but he was also the first President of the United States.
When comparing Sam Adams, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams, we can see that there are some similarities and differences between the men. Perhaps the most notable relation this group has, is that they were all formal presidents and had some type of power or ownership. The qualities of all four men are often seen as opposed to each other. One similarity for example, with George Washington and Thomas Jefferson was that they were prosperous Virginian plantation owners and held slaves. Jefferson and Adams were both well educated people and knew about the law.
A man who stood about 6 feet tall with teeth made of wood and hippopotamus ivory does not even begin to describe the extraordinary man who is George Washington. George Washington, the father of the United States, was the first President of the USA and served as president from 1789 to 1797. He is aptly called the father of his nation due to his key role in the formation of the United States. Many look up to George Washington due to his various accomplishments throughout his life. Winning the Revolutionary War, becoming the first President of the United States, and shaping the way the Constitution was written and how the federal government was formed are all extraordinary accomplishments for any man, especially one who did not go to college.

George Washington was one of America's founding fathers serving as commander-in-chief of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. The commander was crucial in securing independence from Great Britain for America. Washington's leadership and military success earned him the admiration and respect of his fellow patriots. He became one of the most popular and influential figures in American history. Electing the first president of the United States was an easy choice, and Washington won unanimously.
George Washington led the continental army during the American Revolution in a remarkable win against the British. His excellent work in the war would lead him to become the first president of the United States of America. Washington began his military career during the French and Indian war and didn’t do a great job; his first mission was a complete embarrassment. Washington really came to light during the American Revolution, he was selected to lead the continental army. Washington and his men would define all odds and defeat the British.
George Washington demonstrated Remarkable leadership in a long and difficult war. Being the commander of the continental army he faced many challenges that some people would not be able to overcome. One reason the American army started to act more like an army rather than a bunch of farmers and workers was because of George Washington. He had a huge impact on the war and the starting of the revolution, Its safe to say he had a big impression on the way everything turned out. Not only did he have a huge impact on the war side of the revolution he also had an impact on the political side.
George Washington is most known for his leadership as both a general during the revolution and the first president after the war was concluded and the Constitution was ratified. George Washington was very loved by the American people for his leadership as a general. This contributed to the constitution being ratified as most of America had enough faith and trust for Washington that it opened them up to the idea of an executive branch. George Washington also mediated when the Continental Congress met to amend the Articles of Confederation.4 It can be assumed his presence eased some tensions due to his
President George Washington knew that a lot of his accomplishments would be viewed as precedents. As being the first President, he set numerous precedents, a significant number of which are still being implemented today. He chose to be called Mr. President as opposed to the title of being called a King, he then created the Presidential Cabinet, established the term limit of two terms for Presidency and was first President to create foreign policy. Washington was a great president because he never sought command and was a very personable person. “After risking his life and the lives of his troops to lead the fight for independence, Washington returned the power to the people and the representatives they elected"(George Washington: 6 Important Events in First President 's Political Career 2014, September 7). After the war the people wanted him to be the king, but he said the people fought and they should rule "A near mutiny was avoided when Washington convinced Congress to grant a five-year bonus for soldiers in March 1783"(George Washington, 2016). He took back control over the army a few times after he left office to keep the peace. "Thomas Jefferson, who served with Washington in the House of Burgesses, wrote: "On the whole, his character was, in its mass, perfect" (George Washington, 2013).
Although unrelatable and underappreciated in the eyes of modern history, George Washington shows his greatness through his character. Contemporary culture often neglects to recognise Washington’s greatness. Sadly, he has become a figure so far removed from the ideals and lives of modern Americans, that his name often provokes boredom. Nonetheless, his character proved to be perfect for what America needed during his life. His greatness was largely due to chance.
