Fezziwig is unveiled as the antithesis of scrooge. Fezziwig is characterized as jolly,musical,full of life and has a perfect happy family. "Fezziwig, an old,jolly man, gives Scrooge and another worker the night off for Christmas eve.". By affixing Fezziwig as the sensations of warmth, Dickens makes him symbolize Christmas itself,implying that he also represents the values of goodness and generosity that Scrooge has dissipated.
Scrooge appears irredeemable in the novella, because the anecdotes describing his callous and bad behavior are more numerous and dramatic than those described after his transformation. The majority of the first stave was written by Dickens to show the reader Scrooge’s horrible nature. In Stave One, Scrooge is approached by two gentleman canvassing for charitable donations, of which he declines to donate. In an appeal to emotion, the gentlemen then inform Scrooge that many of the poor would rather die than subject themselves to the governments assistance. In response Scrooge says, “If they would rather die, they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.”
Scrooge was also a rude and mean person, who hated Christmas. He was a bad person but when he changed he did not change as much as the Grinch. Scrooge is a rich mean old man, who was given a chance to change, be his nephew inviting him to a Christmas party, or people going around asking for money to donate, but he never did any of that. While the Grinch didn't have an opportunity to change when everyone hated him, and even when he was invited to something, and started to change, they played sick jokes on him. Scrooge could have changed but he didn't, the Grinch only had one chance to change, and he took it.

The way Scrooge acts in the story says a lot about him, however, so does the description about him in the sixth paragraph. The passage precisely states that Scrooge is “a tight-fisted hand at the grindstone” and “hard and sharp as flint, from which no steel struck out a generous fire.” Furthermore, the passage shows greater detail by saying that he’s “a squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous, old sinner” and “solitary as an oyster.” This plethora of information shows a generous amount of greediness and cold-heartedness. Moreover, this quote states,“the cold within him froze his features,” which proves the point that he isn’t a very cheerful person.
The novel “A Christmas Carol and the play “A Christmas Carol” produced by the Hartford Stage had similarities and differences. A resemblance was the Ghost of Christmas Present’s, the physical appearance was perfectly portrayed, it was stated in the novel, “It was in one simple deep green robe, or mantle, bordered with white fur… and on its head it wore no other covering than holly wreath set here and there with shining icicles. Its dark brown curls were long and free.” In the play, the clothes was impeccably exemplary , even the holy wreath with icicles was shown identical according to the text. One of the differentials was there was 3 new characters and 2 children that was not in the book.

In stave 4, Dickens opens stave 4 with “he recoiled in terror,”which demonstrates that Scrooge is now absolutely terrified of death rather than just a little bit scared. He steps back after noticing the shroud, demonstrating his inability to understand what he is seeing. The word "terror" connotes utter fear, anguish, and horror, and this is the first time we have witnessed Scrooge displaying such intense feelings. Dickens emphasises Scrooge's fear of death in the gothic depiction of the animals trying to enter the room of death, which is creepy and terrifying. " A cat was tearing" and "gnawing rats" are used as verbs to describe how the animals strive to enter.

When people get caught up in money, they forget what is really important. In A Christmas Carol, the movie and the play, there are many similarities and differences in the conflict, climax, and resolution of a greedy man that goes by the name of Ebenezer Scrooge.
Although skeptical in the beginning, Scrooge begins to understand why he must change his ways, and he discovers what he can do to become a better person. Throughout most of the first chapter, Scrooge is very greedy. When two kind men come and ask Scrooge for a small donation to help benefit the poor Scrooge asks if any of the prisons or poorhouses are still in operation, and the men tell him: “Many can’t go there; and many would rather die.” To which Scrooge replies with: “If they rather die, they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.” Scrooge was already being greedy by not giving money to the men, but he was also being extremely rude by saying people should hurry up and die.

In Inferno, by Dante Alighieri, Dante travels throughout Hell with Virgil as his guide. He learns about each level of damnation and how the souls are punished. Inferno and A Christmas Carol relate and differ in many ways like the main characters, the use of threes, and the setting.
Stave One, Dickens uses a lot of different quotes and conversations to tell the readers how Scrooge really is, most of these quotes are found in the first few pages and describe how much of a horrible, cold hearted person Scrooge is. Scrooge is described as 'hard and sharp as a flint, ' flint is a type of sedimentary rock with a glossy and waxy appearance and inside it 's usually dark grey. Dickens has used this quote to describe Scrooge as an inanimate object and get the effect what he was like, it also describes the same appearance to scrooge that he was hard on other people and wouldn 't show people his true emotions. Another example of Scrooge being described to an object is 'self-contained, and as solitary as a oyster ' this is a simile which is suggesting that Scrooge was a secretive person, who kept himself to himself and he didn 't like to show others how he felt or what problems he was going through.
In the dramatized version of A Christmas Carol by Frederick Gaines, based on the novella written by Charles Dickens, The Second Spirit metaphorically refers to Scrooge as, “An insect on a leaf pronouncing that there is more to life among his hungry brothers in the dust”(234). In his home, Scrooge is able to eat whatever his heart desires, while others go hungry. Broad and cozy, Scrooge’s home shelters him from the icy climate. Owning a business, Scrooge has an employee at his feet because of his high rank in society. Like an insect on a leaf, Scrooge has access to an abundance of food, lives in a cozy home, and enjoys a high status in society.
In the novel Christmas Carol Scrooge is visited by three ghosts who show him his bad ways. In the movie Scrooge states, "Men's courses will foreshadow certain ends, to which, if preserved in, they must lead. But if the courses be departed from, the ends will change. Say it thus with what you show. " This means what you do or have done affects the future.
