Nebuchadnezzar found them to be ten times better than all other magicians. All four men received knowledge and understanding, while Daniel received the ability to understand visions and dreams (Daniel 1: 8-19). Daniel’s character was determined because he resolved in his heart to follow after Jehovah God regardless of the cost. His faith in God ruled his choices and elevated him in the service of the king. Daniel was tested several times; but, the lion’s den is a powerful portion of his life to examine. Daniel chapter six is the documentation of Daniel making choices, which land him in a lion’s den. The punishment for disobeying the decree would be a terrifying death in a den of lions. At this time, Daniel was already a gifted officer. It is evident the king was manipulated by his advisors to try to destroy a man of God (Palmer). In the progression of the story in Daniel chapter six, we see the envy of the king’s advisors, how they plot to destroy Daniel, the deception of Darius in following his advisors as well as the distress of King Darius when Daniel is put in the lion’s den (Daniel 6). However, more importantly it is noted in the Biblical text how God delivered Daniel from the mouth of the lions and instead judgment came upon Daniel’s adversaries (Palmer).
