A POISON TREE OJ Simpson was a great football player with a bright future ahead of him. One day he let his anger and jealousy get the best of him and murdered his ex wife and her husband. He ended his pro football career because he made a dumb mistake when he was angry. Similarly, the speaker of “A Poison Tree” kills his foe when he was angry at him. Both did something utterly ignorant while they were mad. The theme of “A Poison Tree” is that anger will lead you to do bad things. The Speaker of “A Poison Tree” seemed to be an angry, emotionally unstable person. For example, the speaker says “I was angry with my friend”, “I was angry with my foe”. This shows that he was mad with two different people in the same poem. Although, he forgave his friend he did not forgive his foe. Another example, is when the speaker says, “ night and morning with my tears.” This explains, that he cries from the night to the morning.
