Lorraine Vivian Hansberry was an African American author born on May 19th, 1930, on the South Side of Chicago. She was born into a financially stable African American family because her father founded one of the first African American banks in Chicago and owned a real estate business. She was the first African American woman to produce a play on Broadway. Even though she had a great family and became a very successful person when she was a child she still dealt with segregation.
