Ruth whispered to her daughter that burglars broke in and tied her up. The neighbors looked for Ruth’s husband and found him faced down bleeding on the pillow. The police then investigated the crime scene and saw that Ruth had no injuries and no bruises to be found. The detectives then found in Ruth’s husband tools having blood. Then Ruth blamed her insurance businessmen named Judd Gray and the police then tracked him down, and he said that Ruth asked him to bring poisoned whiskey, he blamed it all on her.
She didn’t know what to do. She had no experience breaking horses. She decided to go to one of her husband's friends, and ask him what all to do when you are breaking a horse safely. She said that she wanted to help break the stallion that killed her husband. He said that he would help her, but it was going to take a lot of work.
Emily was growing old. Her hair was shortening and turning gray. Soon after realizing that “Homer was not the marrying man” and that he would much rather spend his time with young male mates, Emily decided to retaliate. In order to not lose what she thought was the love of her life, Emily went down to the nearest drug store and bought some rat poison and gave it to Homer. Homer died and Emily kept his body in the upstairs room where no one would dare to go.
The father of her children was a white neighbor called Mr. Sands. She did not love Mr. Sands, but just got pregnant for him so her master could forget about her. This did not stop her master from his sexual harassment towards her. When her troubles became unbearable, and also the thought of her children going through the same thing she was going through, she hatched an escape plan. Her master searched for her for years, while she was in her hiding out in her grandmother's attic.
Kindness is often overlooked in society yet it still manages to hold a great deal importance in the lives of many. Kindness is an empowering emotion that can change perspectives and alter destinies. In The Glass Roses by Alden Rowan the true importance of kindness is personified throughout the story. In the story Stephen is encapsulated by the kindness of his fellow worker and greatly impacts Stephan’s ability to determine his own destiny. The Glass Roses shows that individuals tend to hide their true emotions in order to gain respect from their peers however kindness, once truly unveiled can play a huge role in determining ones destiny.
Megan Taylor Worldviews: Christian Perspective Professor Faber August 25, 2014 Defence of Socrates Socrates was considered to be a man of several different talents as well as the wisest man among the land. “They say that there is one Socrates, a ‘wise man,’ who ponders what is above the earth and investigates everything beneath it, and turns the weaker argument into the stronger.” (pg.28) Socrates was an extremely wise and religious man and even though he knew in his heart that he was being wrongfully accused of corrupting young children he accepted his punishment. Wisdom is a gift obtained by few men and Socrates was blessed by the Delphic Oracle with the most wisdom of them all.
Many modernists were inspired by the Civil War, WWI, and the Great Depression to introduce a new theme into literature. This theme consisted of the stream of conscious, and hopelessness. A short piece that has both of these themes is “The Jilting of Granny Weatherall,” by Katherine Ann Porter. Porter’s short story compared to many other modernistic pieces during the modernist time period. Miss Emily Grierson’s father controls her and her love life, pushing away all people until he dies and Emily is left alone. As her life goes on the townspeople watch her and judge Emily, almost turning her life into a spectacle to be talked about. At her death, a gruesome sight is unfolded when her lover of over forty years ago is found decomposed in her upstairs room. William Faulkner effectively builds epic suspense in “A Rose for Emily” by the unchronological order of the story, the treatment of Emily’s father towards her, and her family’s history of mental illness.

The value of romance and mortality resembles the theme of obsession, and is shown throughout the plots, and the characters in, “A Rose for Emily” by William Faulkner and “The Birth Mark” by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Firstly, Faulkner illustrates obsession of romance through mortality. In addition, Emily’s obsessive illness of love over death it often seen throughout the plot. Lastly, Hawthorne demonstrates the obsession of mortality thorough romance, through the main protagonist, Aylmer in “The Birth Mark.” To compare, Emily and Aylmer believe their obsessive consequences was from the heart, despite their obsessive disorders.
The town's clergy now send people to spray for a horrible smell that is coming threw her home. Months go on after that, and all they see is the old Negro coming through the door. We can make the assumption that Emily no longer has the desire for other human contact and wants to stay in the "old southern times. " After much time has passed, the entire town goes to check on Ms. Emily. When they get the door open, we see the old Negro walk out the door and never turn around.
