Khaled Hosseini, an author, wrote the book A Thousand Splendid Suns. This book is a bestseller and looked at as a masterpiece. The book includes many aspects of culture and ethnic issues that occur within Afghanistan. It tells how people lived while the Taliban inhabited Afghanistan. Many struggles occur within the book that involve all of the characters. Many events happen to the characters, which changes their lives forever. A Thousand Splendid Suns is a very inspirational book that could help people endure situations in today’s world.

One day Mariam went into Herat by herself to see her father. He never let her in, and Mariam was driven home. By the time she got home Nana had hanged herself. Jalil took her in and arranged a marriage for Mariam. She was forced to move to Kabul and marry a man named Rasheed. The marriage started good but it got gradually worse over time. Mariam had her first miscarriage and Rasheed basically disregarded her after that. There was also a girl named Laila that was brought into the book. Her parents were Hakim and Fariba. She was best friends with a boy named Tariq. Everything was good until the Taliban took over. They then started bombing Kabul. Laila lost her parents and Tariq had moved. Rasheed and Mariam took care of Laila. Rasheed also asked Laila to marry him. Laila accepted the offer because she had been told that Tariq had died. Laila had been pregnant with Tariq’s daughter, which Rasheed did not know. When the daughter was born, Rasheed was disappointed because he wanted a son. He did not care about Aziza, the daughter.
