In Part Three of The Warmth of Other Suns, Isabel Wilkerson uses the poem Exodus from The Cleveland Advocate and an excerpt from Richard Wright's 12 Million Black Voices to set the tone and context for the harrowing experiences of African Americans during the Great Migration. These words are appropriate because they depict the desperation and determination of African Americans seeking to escape the oppressive conditions of the South. For example, the excerpt from 12 Million Black Voices states, "They packed their belongings in orange crates, said their goodbyes, and went off to cities...," highlighting the resolve of those who embarked on this journey. The manner in which Ida Mae Gladney and George Starling leave the South underscores the
It has often been remarked that the ‘iPhone generation’ will guide the military into the era of enhanced digital capabilities, but reality is that advancement in digital technology is just one component to a complex, idea shifting and ever-evolving puzzle that goes beyond networking and communications. Developing a digital Army is imperative, not only to the warfight capability, but to the modernisation of the logistics effect through better C2 and the connectivity of private military and logistic organisations. Following the implementation of Plan BEERSHEBA and the increased complexities of the battlespace, command and control (C2) is more of a challenge than ever before. Plan BEERSHEBA is underpinned by the tenets of modularity, scalability and networked. Digitisation has occurred to allow the Combat Brigade to command and control the battlespace manoeuvring up to and including three Battle Groups.
Hope motivates many characters in the book A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini but it motivates Mariam the most. For example, when Bibi jo had brought news of Jalil daughters going to a real school, Mariam got caught up in the idea of going to school as the author states “Since then, thoughts of classrooms and teachers had rattled around Mariam 's head, images of notebooks with lined pages, columns of numbers, and pens that made dark, heavy marks.” ( Hosseini 17). This demonstrates how Mariam motivates herself in hope for going to a real school. Instead of getting frustrated and down that Jalil’s other daughters were going to school, Mariam takes the idea that girls her age are going to school and turns it into hope.
Aστέρι is known as the Star God. Aστέρι would run around in the sky with his father and his fathers best friend named, Josiah during the day. At night with Aστέρι’s mother, he would help her with cooking and getting the table ready for dinner. Even though they had servants, they would help cook in the kitchen to have bonding time with each other and they would begin to have a strong bond with the slaves that would serve them. When Aστέρι was nine years old, his father tragically died from some poisoning from his drink.
The injustice Mariam endures in the novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns, leads Mariam on a struggling journey impacting her future path in life. The injustice that Mariam endures leaves a permanent mark on her life and impacts her from the beginning. Life wasted no time throwing the cruel injustices of life at Mariam. Mariam was marked a harami, otherwise known as a child without a father, even though her father Jalil was alive, near, and well. “She understood then what Nana meant, that a harami was an unwanted thing: that she, Mariam, was an illegitimate person that would never have legitimate claim to the things other people had, things such as love, family, home, acceptance.”
“Laila lay there and listened, wishing Mammy would notice that she, Laila had not become shaheed, that she was alive, here, in bed with her, that she had hopes and a future. But Laila knew her future was no match for her brother’s past.” (A Thousand Splendid Suns Pg.128). Many people say that one of the hardest things to deal with in life is the death of a child. All hope for the future cease to exist as soon as the child takes their last breath.
The motif of Relationships is prominent throughout The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns. Khaled Hosseini uses relationships to develop characters and move plot. “I was Sunni and he was Shia’a” Hosseini continues to use character opposites to express diversity in successful relationships. He does this to emphasize how different ideologies can coexist. This is inspired by his life in Afghanistan living under the Soviets, then moving to the US where people from all races, religions, and ethnic backgrounds live together.

Power and Corruption When in the wrong hands, power can be used as a weapon to exploit and belittle others. If power is misused, it usually leads to dire consequents, like in A Thousand Splendid Suns, where two women fall victim to those who control them. In the novel A Thousand Splendid Suns, Hosseini proves that once a person is promoted to a place of authority, he or she will inevitably become corrupted by the power that he or she holds. For power to hold any value, one must be able to generate fear and submission from his victims.
People thought that the north star was the brightest star in the universe. When we had slavery the slaves would follow the north star which was quite noticeable, considering people thought it was the brightest. Although, people may have gotten the North Star confused with other stars, people still believed it was the brightest. People believed that the north star was the brightest star because they got it confused with the dog star, (Alpha Canis Majoris). Stars have different magnitudes, so if the north star had a magnitude of below -1 it would be brightest then a star with a magnitude of above 0.

In regards to the historiography of gender politics in the Victorian era, the social position of women and femininity had become a problematic issue. Similarly, the gender apartheid instilled prior to the civil war in Afghanistan. A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, initially published in 2007, is set in Afghanistan from the early 1960s to the early 2000s. In this, it explores the story of Mariam and Laila as the protagonists, who teach the reader the reality of life as a woman in a backward Islamic country. The story covers three decades of anti-Soviet jihad, civil war and Taliban tyranny seen from the perspectives of these two women and observes how they become to create a bond, despite having come from previously living in very different backgrounds.
Abstract women have been living very miserable lives throughout the history somewhere because of gender differences and somewhere base on lame excuses of religion. They do not have equal rights, freedom, opportunities as men and have been suffering gender-based violence perpetuated towards them in the male dominated society. Afghan women show great strength and resistance in the face of adverse circumstances. They have developed traumatic problems and in reaction to their problems, they have grown very resilience to the Afghan tradition and men harsh treatment. The research entitled “Trauma and Resistance of Afghan Women: A Critical Study of Khaled Hosseini’s Novel “A Thousand Splendid Suns”, was intended to critically analyze the novel to explore trauma and resistance of Afghan women.
