Identity politics do not fit into the political spectrum since there needs to be work done to diminish the highlighting of identity in everyday life, rather than institutionalizing it. Three sections of identity politics to examine are Feminism, the African American experience, and the Anticolinialism experience.. these sections are not extreme victimizations, but are rather legitimate and relevant arguments for equality in today’s world. The reason they do not fit onto the political spectrum is because politics should include gender, race, or socio-economic status, but should hold equality throughout.

In her piece titled A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, she argues that reason is what places humans above the rest of the world other. Her policy prescription was education. The road to access for equality is to promote equal education. Denying women the opportunity to get an education and job makes women unqualified, but making them qualified displays that women are just as capable as men. This doubles the competition for jobs. Wollstonecraft is radical in the sense that she is advocating for equal access to education, almost two hundred years ago. Women are given more credit for being more emotional way. Relating this to Marx’s theory of the superstructure, he said that people are told to behave in a certain way, and will behave in a certain way. If a woman is not as emotional, they are considered mentally ill. When people did not buy into the Marxist ideals, they were put into mental institutions. Wollstonecraft is observing the world as it is and describing it acctuartly. Emotionalism turned learned behavior. “It is time to effect a revolution in female manners—time to restore to them their lost dignity—and make them, as a part of the human species, labour by reforming themselves to reform the world. It is time to separate unchangeable morals from local manners.” To be more emotional is gendered by indentificaiton, but not by gender. The assumptions of “femininity” and poor education tend to drag humanity and society down. This pertains to why this subgroup in identity politics does not have a spot on the basic political spectrum. The feminist perspective that Wollstonecraft lays down, are ideas that will inspire people. Women have been trained over time to behave more emotional.
