The majority of parents want their child(ren) to be viewed as “perfect”. A child that cannot sit still in class could simply be craving work that is more challenging or even more attention, thus why does society automatically resort to wanting to fill growing brains and forming personalities with man-made drugs just to have them appear to “fit-in”? Too many people lean towards medications to solve their problems instead of going to the root of the problem to fix the cause. ADHD also known as Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder is what asha.org defines as “a condition of the brain that affects a person's ability to pay attention. It is most common in school-age children”. Parents should be asking what other sources are out there to help their child. In addition, the use of prescriptions can lead to a dependency of prescription drugs that develop at a young age in children who have ADHD, and they lose self-confidence when on the medicine.

Unfortunately, when a child is on prescriptions to shape their characters, the chances of lacking self-confidence in decisions and in one’s self is significantly lower. After a period of time being on the prescribed medicine, the child will doubt decisions that they have made. They tend to wonder if that was themselves that made the decision, or just the medicine. What kind of life is that to lead? The children will have no confidence in themselves to make important decisions and try to shy away from being the one to make the choices. When taught other ways to channel their focus, like focusing on writing, children are also taught that they can make decisions that are important without worrying about it being because of
