Treatments vary among different individuals including medication. The treatment that is for every child diagnosed with the disorder is making accommodations while every child is unique and different types work for different cases. It is important that as educators we do not put a student into a category thinking that what worked for one student is going to work the same. A multimodal process must be used. In order to effectively help a child who has ADHD parents must go through training and programs that will assist them but more importantly how to correctly show children affection. I was diagnosed in first grade. I had to go through a series of test and go to the Children’s Hospital in Boston. I remember the day like it was yesterday. Being in first grade and knowing that you are different made it difficult. I was forced to sit in the front row and every day I had to go to the nurses office at lunch time to take another pill. This took a large affect on me I was extremely embarrassed to do this and I just wanted to be like the other kids. I was placed on an IEP because I had a processing disorder as well. Going forward my parents and the doctor thought it would be best for me to take medication also based on what the teachers had noticed. I used medication from first grade all the way to a senior in college. In high school my sophomore year I did not want to take medication anymore. I told my doctor I wanted to try with out it. For about one month I tried it and it was extremely difficult
