ASAM 100 has been one of the most insightful classes I have taken in college—so far! Through this class, I was able to learn a great deal about my culture and about myself as a person. In retrospect to my first “Why ASAM?” essay, I still believe that it is important for everybody to learn about their culture sometime throughout their life. I was able to learn about various topics such as: the issues of my culture, the traditions of my culture, how others view individuals of my culture, and more. Throughout this class, I learned about the Model Minority Myth and its effect on individuals of Asian background, I learned about issues that other Asian Americans faced through the video, Asian American Voices, and I learned to grow as a writer.
Having a holistic foundation is essential in providing quality healthcare. My goal is to become a highly competent Occupational Therapist, specialized in the field of pediatrics. I have a strong undergraduate academic foundation that provides me with the confidence, skill and perseverance needed to sustain in professional school. I am also an individual that loves to be active and creative in many ways. In my spare time I love to do things such as cook, attend work out classes, attempt DIY projects and read interesting novels.
As a former AP Lang student, I feel that this class has been very beneficial for me in that it has allowed me to apply the techniques and strategies I learned last year toward more relevant subjects. Having the freedom of choosing topics to write about for our various essays made this class more enjoyable than the other English classes that I have taken. AP Lang focused heavily on the techniques of writing solid essays, but instead of writing about useful topics, we analyzed the short stories provided on the exams. Writing a personal narrative essay was very helpful in my college application process and allowed me to employ the same kind of strategies that I learned in class into my college essays.
Ever since entering community college, my goal was to serve in the health care field with a business degree. The hospice and home care volunteer opportunity that was presented to me solidified my foundation that I want to really work in the health care field and also working for them. In summer 2016, I worked as a receptionist for their physical therapy clinic at Oakland Chinatown in Oakland. The job was enriching to me and taught me a little bit about working in the health field. It was a challenge to serve the majority Asian clientele that most of the time did not speak any English.
This position has shaped me into putting forth the extra effort to being a supporter and overall motivator for individuals who are overwhelmed by life. From working as an MHPP for Birch Tree Communities Inc., I have gained experience clinically. In this position I have put forth my best effort to work diligently, day in and out, to aid clients ' recovery to raise the retention rate of them not falling back into behavior that would lead them back down the road of regression, by teaching them how to overcome and move forward despite their past without allowing it to define them. I did not think that it was possible for me to become any more selfless until I began to work with individuals who struggled with mental illnesses, from understanding
I have completed an ample amount of time researching this career, shadowing providers in this specialty, and working along side these professionals has allowed me to determine without a doubt that this is the right career path for
My Intent to Be a Nurse Practitioner Coming from a third world country where there aren’t many opportunities for work and funding for education, proceding to nursing school was a grand opportunity. The privilege to attend a government subsidized school where top students in the region compete to get into the program that allowed only 60 students per year was indeed a blessing. As clinical rotations began, what was once considered a mere opportunity evolved into a true passion for caring as I truly love and enjoy nursing and helping people.
Last April 2016, I completed a 4-year program with a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy and I pride myself on being recognized by showing commendable performance as a
During this time, I noticed the difference in care provided between the doctor and the nurse. The nurse offered a more trusting relationship, emphasized the use of holistic care, and provided empathy, which was much appreciated. Thereafter, I began volunteering at Lowell General Hospital and experienced my own interpersonal relationships with the outpatients. I felt truly satisfied during my time there, as I was able to apply my values and experience the gratitude and warmth that radiated from each patient that I helped. Therefore, I chose to pursue a career in nursing, as it is similarly based on my own beliefs and makes me feel like I make a difference in the lives of every person that
Hopefully I will be able to get my degree in three or four year so I can start my career as a register nurse healing survivors of war. I would like to work at Jack C. Montgomery Veteran Association medical center in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Their motto is “Excellence start here” and I would love to be part of that excellence that heals selfless men and women who fought for our country. That’s how I will show my patriotism and appreciation for our troops, by helping to heal wounded and disabled
I want to earn my way up to a good university and earn my degree, apply to an outstanding dental school and start my long years of residency that lie before me. One of my goals in the future is to help others in need for medical attention. It makes me happy when I see others happy. I want to give back to my community and help others so I can earn the respect that I’ve always wanted.
We all worked hard to get to this day, and our work did not go to waste. Here we are, ready to graduate. but we didn't do it by ourselves. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the following people.
Dr. Freeman, We learned today in our curriculum class that we were on our own for our APSs. When Saurino was asked when our APSs were due, she said that she only assigned the artifact and that we were on our own to complete the rest. Good thing you booked a room for us. She has wasted so much class time on nonsense stuff that we could have done both of our APSs in her class during the time we are scheduled to be on campus. For example, today she reviewed the same stuff she has reviewed over and over.
To enhance my experience I would like to work with veterans, adult homeless, and the mentally ill. My objective is to be admitted into the Master of Science degree program with an option in Rehabilitation Counseling, where I can grow and take on new challenges. Ultimately, I would like to assume further educational and gain work experience that would allow me to work more effectively with people with disabilities. Most importantly, I would like to work for an agency where I can build a career in counseling and possibly management. I am driven to be the best at what I do.
How will you incorporate your experiences into these goals? How will you make a positive impact? Upon completion of my undergraduate studies and receiving my bachelors in biology from Ohio State University, I will shift focus to excelling in dental school. Pending that Ohio State accepts my application to dental school, I plan to earn a D.D.S. from Ohio State. My experiences volunteering at the VFW, Single Marine Program, and Vineyard Community Church have not only taught me how to better serve, but also the level of coordination and planning involved in volunteer organizations.
