A crime case found most complex and controversial, being spread across every news station in the city as well as being published in the New York Times, occurred in a high school in Bronx, NY. A week into his senior year of high school, 18-year-old student Abel Cedeno went online to Amazon.com and bought a knife, easily hidden and began taking it to school with him. He was a student who felt trapped, continuously being mocked with racist and homophobic slurs. During a history class one day, two classmates began throwing pencil bits and balled-up pieces of paper at Mr. Cedeno making it a seemingly repetitive offense against him. Mr. Cedeno did at that moment get up and had gone to the bathroom but when he returned, the tormenting continued. Things …show more content…
Bullying crime lurks in many locations such as metropolises, cities, towns, and even villages. To be more specific, bullying crimes happen every day in our children's schools, our churches, and at our jobs. The bullying crime in this case was so intense that it put a form of a wall between those who supported the way Abel Cedeno handled the situation and those who thought it was a senseless killing committed on a young 15-year-old boy. Most people would consider it a crime against the victim, but people should be mindful of how it is also a crime against the suspect too. I am not trying to suggest that Abel Cedeno is innocent in the case but if I stand correctly, bullying is a crime that so many people try to throw on the sidelines. "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction", a quote said by Isaac Newton; although he may have meant this in a scientific manner however, it still correlates with what is being explained. Abel Cedeno was pushed to his absolute breaking point. There comes a time when you no longer want to hear "it gets better" or "don't worry it'll stop soon" from those around you. Some people go straight into taking matters into their own hands. To continuously have to deal with someone trying to physically hurt you just because you're not like them, isn't something anyone should have to go through. Even those who result in …show more content…
The crime is and continues to be at its worse when it comes to Black and Hispanic communities. The reason why is because as an African American, we are raised to fear those who could have superiority over us (ex. police officers) for the sake of not being harmed. In this instance, Black and Hispanic families believe that their own are incapable of committing the same act in which they fear would be committed unto them. One statement that stood out to me in terms of its alikeness between both cases was the phrase, "My child is no bully." This was said by both the mother of Matthew McCree and the neighbor of Timothy Crump. This however, slightly baffles me because how would you know what your child is doing to other students if you aren't with them 24 hours of the day? A child may seem innocent in the midst of their parents but a cruel human being when they have the ability to portray themselves as superior to those they see as
