Abigail williams: Murderess of Salem.
There is a very thin line that separates obsession from love and often times when a person crosses that line it’s difficult if not impossible to come back from. In Arthur Miller’s The Crucible that line is crossed by a 19 year old Abigail williams ,who realizes this and, yet simply refuses to understand the difference between the two. In Salem, Massachusetts Abigail williams is a vengeful young woman who has an affair with John proctor and in doing so she becomes obsessed with him. Starting up rumors of witchcraft in the town, Abigail starts the downward spiral that leads the town into chaos and mass hysteria. Abigail wanted to get John proctor to love her using sny means necessary. When Abigail and her friends go out into the forest to dance and make “love potions” in the forest with Tituba, Parris’ slave , they think it's all fun and games. Abigail on the other hand thinks that if Tituba can conjure a real spell, she'll be able to bewitch John proctor into loving her. As Tituba begins to make the potions each of the girls puts something in the pot and says the name of the boy they wish to “bewitch”, Abigail slits a chicken's throat and puts it's blood on her face and mouth. Abigail becomes delusional and her insight becomes clouded. She sees what her lies have done to the town but still continues on her fight for John proctor. Even Parris sees the destruction she has caused, but seeing as he is a selfish and shallow man he does nothing to stop her. “...
