Another example of pathos that she uses is regarding one of her personal experiences. For example, she said that after a meeting she attended, someone in the audience complained that a friend with chronic myeloid leukemia had difficulty obtaining a coupon for the drug that she was qualified for. This appeals to the audiences emotion because it makes you feel sorry for this person who is suffering from leukemia and makes the drug industry look bad for letting people who are dying suffer because they make it difficult to allow them access to drugs that they need at cheaper prices. Another example of pathos that she uses is when she says that in the United States, we are used to hearing about patients with AIDS in Third World countries going without lifesaving treatment, but now it might be happening in the United States. This appeals to the audiences emotion because it puts fear into them and makes the worry about the fact that now the U.S. might just be as bad as third world countries when it comes to people having access to drugs that could save someones life.
