Abraham Lincoln: Emancipator of Racist? Abraham Lincoln, otherwise known as The Great Emancipator, impacted our country tremendously in the dark time of slavery and extreme prejudice and inequality. It is a known fact that Lincoln was one of the most influential presidents of our country’s history and made important decisions regarding its social and political normalities of that time. Lincoln was known as the Great Emancipator because he molded the lives of millions of enslaved african-americans with the swipe of his pen, when he presented the Emancipation Declaration, declaring the extinction of slavery. Even though, Lincoln drastically changed America's course with this document, his viewpoints on racial and social equality with blacks and whites put his intentions up for debate. Lincoln could be labeled as an emancipator, who is someone that sets free a person or a group of people from legal, social, or political restrictions by some, but he could also be considered a racist, who is someone who shows or feels prejudice or discrimination against people of other races or who

Many of Lincoln’s supporters, along with Lincoln himself, favored anti-slavery but was still backing for white supremacy. Lincoln made it completely clear during this debate that he did not support social and political equality for blacks and whites and never did support it. Lincoln believed He was not in favor of letting blacks vote, serve in a jurie, hold office, or interracial marriage. Lincoln believed that there was a physical difference between blacks and whites and this prevented the two from ever being equal. He also says that there must be an inferior and superior position and he believed that the white race was the superior race. Although, Lincoln believed that despite african-americans being inferior, this shouldn't deny them of all
