Abraham Lincoln, our 16th president was born on February 12, 1809, in the state of Kentucky. As a child, he and his family moved to Indiana in 1816 for both a more secure land ownership and for the forbidden slavery from the Northwest Ordinance of 1787. Abraham Lincoln as president disapproved of slavery in the United States and this disapprovement started at a young age; in fact, his family was part of a Baptist church that was against slavery which supports Lincoln's statement of him being “naturally anti-slavery.” In 1832, Lincoln served in the Black Hawk War where he became captain of his volunteer company; in addition, this opportunity opened up other new avenues such as his presidency later on in his life.
